This has really been ticking me off lately, and I'm not sure if anyone also notices it or if it's just me.

Both Jaylen brown and Brandon Ingram have had less than stellar debuts in the summer league. Ingram's best game so far was a 12 point performance in his first game, while he is coming off an 0-5 shooting night in which he finished with only 7 points.

You wouldn't be able to tell this from Twitter, however. A quick search of Ingrams name comes up with a majority of tweets such as "this kid Ingram gonna be NICE" and "it's scary to think what he might become in a few years". Searching brown's name, however, yields a bunch of tweets about how "brown looks like a total bust" and how "Ainge really screwed this one up". Heck, even ESPN and other major outlets are weighing in.

Maybe it's just me, but it feels like if brown were on the darlings of the NBA (LA) there'd be a lot more tweets about how he's got a bright future and to not overreact, whereas Ingram was Danny's worst mistake ever and the Celtics are destined for mediocrity.

It’s long been that way. Even throughout bad seasons, and not counting last season’s Kobe tour, they get sports media coverage no other team gets doing the same.

Yup. Just gotta accept it. Nothing more you can do. We've never exactly been a media darling (though our past 2 seasons have earned us a lot of love).
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

1.  Not sure how this is Lakers bias.  Before the draft and before the lottery, everybody thought Ingram was a better prospect than Brown. This had been considered a 2 player draft for a while. If the C's had drafted Dunn or Bender, would you still be upset about Ingram getting more love than Brown?  If anything, I think this is Celtics bias on your part.

2.  Twitter =/= "The Media", not even close.  I feel like that's complaining about the media while pointing to the amount of YouTube mixtapes available or the number or popularity of player specific posts on Reddit.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Let them have this one because they will definitely end up outside of top 8 (in Western conference) once again this year haha!

Yeah I find the complaint regarding twitter and calling it the media as weird.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I noticed the same thing as OP.  There is clearly a bias in favor of the Lakers. That is because they are in a major media market, and have been the most successful and glamorous team this century.  That's a fact.  If and when we become more successful than them on a long term, consistent basis, the media will start to praise us more.  Look at the Red Sox and Patriots. They get far more media attention than any other teams, mostly because of their recent success.   Frankly, we have generally gotten a lot of good coverage, particularly on Ainge and Stevens, and the positive talk about the future of the franchise.

But I agree 100% about how guys like Ingram and Simmons can do no wrong, and Brown is under a critical microscope. Part of the problem derives for Celtic fans, who generally have criticized the pick, and are looking for warts already.  Check these forums.

Take a quick look at Ingram's highlights.

Then look at what Brown has done.

With Ingram, yes he's struggled from the field, but he's had plays that look good.  Really good.  Silky smooth.  And he manages to finish.

What I've seen from Brown is a lot of explosion to the basket but a complete inability to finish.  He's hit a couple open threes, which is nice.  But for the most part what he's shown on offense is that his 1-on-1 game is rudimentary and predicated on playing bully-ball.  Off-ball, he's lost.  If he can't get to the line, he doesn't seem to know what to do out there.

Yes, it's just summer league, and Brown is young.  It's troubling because it is consistent with what he did in college.  He was a poor finisher in college, as well.  He struggled to contribute when he played off the ball in college, too.

With Ingram, his college resume gives reason to believe the struggles he's having in Summer League are just his adjustment to a different level of play.  When he makes nice plays gliding to the basket, or creating space for himself and nailing a pull-up mid-range jumper, that feels like a presage of things to come.

Bottom line, there will always be extra hype around Lakers players.  Luckily for us, that's all Lakers fans have to go on right now.  Hype.  The Celts will be good next year even if Jaylen Brown spends the entire year in Maine.  The Lakers desperately need for Deangelo to have a breakout year and for Ingram to compete for Rookie of the Year.

Seriously, watch the highlights of Ingram in this video and tell me Brown has done anything approaching that so far in Summer League.

I think the best we've had of Jaylen is a handful of failed dunks in the first game.

PhoSita,

You're trying too hard, here.

Someone could assemble about as many highlights of Brown as they can for Ingram. I personally think both will be really good pros.

Okay guys, sorry I said "the media" instead of Twitter. I probably should have phrased that differently when I posted but whatever. In regard to the players, yes I think both will be successful pros and will have good careers. Sorry if the post came off as a bit of a rant, just wondered if anyone else noticed this.

IMO it's more of an Ingram than a Lakers bias.

He has been receiving media attention long before Jaylen did.

I hope you didnt look at highlights to determine if he could finish...

Hes shooting 31% so his finishing clearly hasnt been all too rosy.
