Let's face it. Dunn has potential to be better than both Smart and Bradley. If we were willing to give up the #3 pick along with either one of those 2, along with other assets, then the value given up would have been greater than Smart+Bradley anyway.

The only missing part of this equation now is where Brown ranks compared to Smart and Bradley.

Who said we were willing to give up #3 + Smart or Bradley? The rumor was #3 for Noel+RobCov+2 picks in the 20's, and *Ainge* was the one who declined...

We are talking about Okafor here. Whether the team thinks worth it or not, the general consensus here was Okafor was worth it the #3 + Smart or Bradley. This is all that matters here since this is where the discussion is taking place.

Consensus? I don't think there's even a consensus that Okafor>Noel...

Here is why I don't trade even just Smart straight up for Okafor.  Smart is an elite defensive player at his position.  When we desperately needed ANYBODY to stop Milsap in the playoffs, Smart did it.

Smart has shown flashes of being good offensively.  Despite the terrible shooting year last year, Smart nailed some HUGE threes late in that playoff series.  Just being willing to take the shots is sometimes half the battle.  Plus, his intangibles are huge.  Flopping aside, he draws a lot of offensive fouls.  Not only is that a turnover but adds fouls to get in the bonus and takes their players out of their games and off the floor.  To me, drawing an offensive foul is three to four times as valuable as blocking a shot, and maybe more, which is why I also wouldn't trade Smart straight up for Noel either.

The idea that Smart is better than Okafor is laughable.

Smart will either significantly, and I mean truly significantly, improve his offense, or he'll be nothing more than a defensive specialist for his career, because his offensive game (in an offense-led league) is atrocious.  Okafor is already a starting level player who's shown flashes of being an all-star caliber player.

Philly would be foolish to trade the two even up, and Boston would be foolish not to.  Philly will, rightfully, ask for more.  I just wouldn't give up Bradley, Horford, Brown, Crowder, Thomas, or the Brooklyn picks in that trade.  Pretty much everything else can go.

Add the option for Philly to include the LAL 2017 1st rounder (top 3 protected) in with Okafor.

People say "defensive specialist" as if it's such a bad thing. I'd MUCH rather have a top 10 defender who is bad on offense than a good but not great offensive player who is bad on defense.

Don't kid yourself.  If you flipped the two players, and someone posed the same question, you'd laugh your ass off at the idea of giving up Okafor for Smart, just before you told that person to go pound sand.

A starting level player on one of the worst NBA teams of all time. Smart would have started for them, too, and probably would've led them in minutes. The only reason he hasn't started all the time for the Celtics the last two years is that Isaiah (All Star) and Avery (All Defensive) play here.

By stats alone, last season Okafor had about a dozen games worthy of an All Star. As a starter on the worst team in the league. Smart had about half a dozen games worthy of an All Star. As a reserve for a 48-win playoff team. Switch the teams and players: Would you not be scoffing at Celtics fans who think their young reserve big is too valuable to trade for the Sixers' young starting PG?

Get out of here with that nonsense.  Okafor's a legit starter.
