And it's not because of talent, because Cousins is clearly 5x better than Okafor right now...

But Okafor is on a rookie contract, so you could add Okafor and still have enough cap space to get a max-contract in 2017 (Griffin, Hayward or Westbrook) or 2018 (PG13, Harden, etc.)

Okafor could be a 20/10 big man under Stevens' system, and while he could be an offensive force who can rebound, Horford can help play defense inside the paint. It definitely makes a lot more sense having Okafor now that we have Horford. Stevens can definitely get the most out of Okafor and he does give us a post-scorer as well. I prefer Cousins, but Okafor might be the wisest move for the Celtics in the long term.

Good thinking.

Flexibility is important and there's a good chance the Celtics can snag another quality free agent.

This is incorrect on a few parts.
1) Boogie makes equal money to Amir Johnson and Jonas, and their money comes off of the books next year. Essentially preserving the same cap space in 2017.
2) Having Boogie with Al Horford is probably your biggest selling point for any free agent for 2017.
3) We would have a real problem paying everyone in 2018 (3 max contracts)... But this is when its worth paying the luxury tax to contend for a 'ship

What would you be willing to give up for him?

I am pretty sure I would not be willing to pay what Philly wants. There are better landig spot/trades out there for Philly and Okafor.

Cousins has a fantastic contract for his talent, and only 1 fewer year on his deal than Okafor.

Price to acquire is the issue, definitely not salary. The cap will actually dip down again in two summers when he needs to re-up. He makes less $$ than Mozgov.

Plus, he's so versatile you can reasonably shed one more medium/high salaried big man. Horford and Cousins can excel with role players filling out the big man rotation, because you can put Cousins next to anyone and he'll still score & defend.

If it's possible to get Okafor without sacrificing max cap space next summer, I think it'd be a great move.

I wouldn't give up Bradley, Crowder, or either of the BRK picks to do it, though.

I like Okafor, but only as an option if we can't get Cousins.

As for offers, you offer lesser 1st rounders and/or guys like Yabusele or Zizic.

Maybe Clippers pick (could be good, but Memphis looks more likely to be a lottery pick), one of our own 1st rounders in 18/19/20, or any of our young guys like DJax, Bentil, Yabusele, Zizic who play well in the near term. Hunter or Young avail, though I doubt they get us too far.

S&T with Sully could work, too.

This is basically my exact thoughts on the matter. Cousins is literally the end goal in regards to acquiring a superstar. If he is just not available or mildly reasonable (I understand he's a a star and that would require concessions) then okafor is a great good consolation prize. It's even better since we could get him and use the brooklyn picks (don't move brooklyn for him Danny. )

Remember what Ainge has done with the first two ...

Drafted Jaylen Brown with one, the best player available imo.  What was the other Brooklyn pick?
