If they are making a move with Smart, it's going to be an All-Star.  The only way they move Smart, is if they are getting Westbrook or Cousins back imo...

I wouldn't trust a publication that can't even get Horford's numbers right.

Also, the "source" for this is the opinion article of some kid in Iowa (note the title), so it's certified hogwash. Not a rumor.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
There's zero chance we move Smart for Vucevic, but this could definitely Danny planting seeds in Philly's head that if they don't send Okafor to Boston soon, the chance will vanish.

Good pressuring Danny :)

There's zero chance that the Magic will just give away Vucevic for Smart. In the ICYMI department, the kid averaged 18.5 and 10 for the past 2 years and is just 25.

Also, they have zero reason to trade Vucevic; Biyombo will be coming off the bench.

Yea TP... people need to stop looking at Smart through these rose colored glasses. He is great defensively, average to below average offensively.. but more importantly guards are a dime a dozen in the NBA. Players with Vucevic skill set, especially at his age, are not.
I take this trade in a heartbeat if I were the C's.

Well, there's zero chance Orlando trades Vucevic for Smart.

As much as I like Smart, I'd do this in a heartbeat.

Now that I'm through laughing, you better believe I trade Smart for Vucevic.

Before the Orlando GM sobers up.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

This is the weakest of weak rumors, but a trade for Vucevic would make sense for both parties. Vucevic's contract is attractive with 3 years, $37m remaining. The Magic now have two starting-caliber centers with the Biyombo signing, in addition to Ibaka. I'm not sure Smart is the right trade chip, as the Magic already have a one-way defensive PG in Payton. I don't think the two of them can realistically share the floor at this point. However, they would be looking for a 3+D wing to replace Oladipo, and AB could fit the bill.

I think AB + a non-Nets 1st would be fair.

If guards are a dime a dozen, then wouldn't Smart be more valuable since he posseses a skill (defense) at a level that almost no other guards have, making him one of those guards that arent a dime a dozen.. He is actually very rare.

You're right, they probably wouldn't considering their guard rotation is stacked, but Danny wouldn't waste Smart in a Vucevic trade.
Big men that average 18 and 10 on terrible teams heading into their 6th season aren't highly coveted.

Smart has played 2 seasons and is already an All NA caliber defender and will be highly coveted in trades for real stars or potential stars.
You can't waste him on a mediocre center like Vucevic.

Given Okafor's age and post game, he's a far better target for trading Smart (plus other things) to fill the gap at center.

Okafor = franchise potential big man.
Vucevic= nice starter who scores with high usage, will never be a star.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I wouldn't be devastated if this happened, but I also prefer Okafor - he is younger, cheaper, and has more potential to grow. Also, Philly is more desperate to make a move. It will be really interesting to see if Danny makes a move.

I hate vucevic... I would be sooo mad if Danny did this trade. Now I know that I am probably biased because Smart is by far my favorite player, but I just don't believe Vuc is an impact player. He is a stats guy and has never brought his team to the playoffs despite having so much talent. Remember last year when Orlando has Payton, Oladipo, Harris, Vuc, Gordon, and Hezonja. They had much more talent than us with just Thomas, Crowder, and Bradley but we finished with a better record than them. The clutch gene is something that I value very heavily, and I see it in a lot of our guys(Smart, Rozier, Crowder when not injured) and really the only player on the magic that I think might have the clutch gene is Hezonja. I know Vuc hit two game winners last year, which is very impressive, but I have seen him choke in crunch time a lot more than he has came through in the clutch which is a big concern for me if I am going to trade Smart for him. I also don't think he makes a difference as much as Smart does in just his sophomore season even though his stats are A LOT better, especially after we just signed Horford. The reason why I hate Vuc with a passion is because I often see people saying that he should be an all star because of his stats when he really doesn't make a winning impact on his team imo.
Warning: I am a Marucs Smart homer
