Nah, Marcus is pretty good.   Defends anyone.   Who else can defend LITERALLY anyone?

What else can he do? Smart's an excellent defender, but he's subpar at literally everything else (save for offensive rebounding).
Hes got the clutch gene and hes better in loose ball situations than anyone. Hes not a great passer, but he has good court vision in my opinion. Also, it seemed to me that at the end of the year he was finally getting into the paint while under control. Doing that consistently will be a key to upping his FG% and assist numbers etc. If he can do that more, while also upping his 3pt% to 35% he should become an OK offensive player. Which is all you need when he brings all the other stuff to the table.

This is homer stuff, largely. I get the love for his intangibles, but he lacks effective skills in many areas.

I think Marcus Smarts gets a pass for his poor shooting because he does a lot of different things well...or seems to do them well whenever the game is on the line! If you re-watch the 4th quarter and overtime of game 4 versus Atlanta, you can see his true potential. He scored 11 straight points to drag the Celtics back into the game. Then he switched onto Millsap, who had 40 points, and defended him better than anyone else had, while rebounding well against the Hawks bigs. Then he ran the point in overtime and set up some easy buckets for Amir Johnson.... ALL AT THE AGE OF 22. You don't expect your second year player to be winning you playoff games at both ends of the floor, not in the kind of fashion. When everyone wants to switch everything, a PG who can defend 1 to 3 and switch onto 4s, while rebounding like a forward, is going to be extremely valuable.
