So what could we put around Westbrook to beat golden state? I'd be afraid to deal a couple potential 19 year old studs( no lock or anything but even 1 19 year old stud would be nice.)

How bout a roster of

Westbrook
AB
Brown or crowder
Griffin
Horford

It as 6th man

It will be near the trade deadline if it happens.

I'm just not a huge Westbrook fan.

Same.  His standing as a player is pretty undeniable but to use him you basically have to run "chaos" as your playbook.  He has to take the most shots and handle the ball a lot.  You can certainly win games and be a really good team no doubt but I just don't love it.

I could also see his game age really poorly if his athleticism goes.    He has improved as a shooter and passer but not a ton.  I think for example his passing is still not great and he gets so many assists because he is so good going to the rim and drawing defenders that simple passes only need to be made to shooters.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
If you can get Westbrook for a few picks, and maybe some players that are already redundant on the roster, then you do it.

Show Westbrook the fans, support, and you can still reel in good endorsement deals if you're one of the brightest stars. This guy has the potential to be better than our generation's CP3/Curry.
Uh Westbrook is the same age as Curry, Curry is only 8 months older.

I know, I'm just saying he could be better than Curry and early CP3.

I think people overrate Curry, and have unanimously rated him the best point guard in the NBA, where I think it's all debatable. Would certainly put Irving, CP3, and Lillard right behind and very close to Westbrook/Curry.

So what could we put around Westbrook to beat golden state? I'd be afraid to deal a couple potential 19 year old studs( no lock or anything but even 1 19 year old stud would be nice.)

Cousins, and possibly going after Harden or Hayward would be ideal.

I think a big 3 of DMC, Westbrook and possibly Harden or George could be the perfect response to GSW, and considering how much of our bench is retained.

There was a poll on twitter that Jeff retweeted from some Celtics media:

Smart, Brown, and both 2017/2018 BKN picks for Westbrook yes/no?

 ::)

If he's open to extending, I'd certainly do that.

If he's standoffish, probably not.

Interestingly, it sounds like Westbrook would be, according to the OKC media. They say he is open to playing in California or the northeast, because of his affection for the style scene.

Westbrook is not extending with ANYONE. That's not going to happen, so let's remove that variable from the equation. It makes ZERO sense for him financially, or anyone for that matter who can actually play, to accept an extension this season.

Everyone will hit the free-agency and take advantage of the increasing cap and maximum salaries next year. Further than that Westbrook is surely going to bolt to a team in LA, I can almost guarantee it.

Will the lakers even have cap space?

Absolutely would NOT remove that from the equation. He can divulge his intentions to you, and if I'm going to trade for him, I would expect an honest answer from him.

If he doesn't want to give one, then I wouldn't trade for him.

You don't need an on paper extension you need a gentleman's agreement to resign, ala LeBron in Cleveland.

Ask Marcus and Markieff Morris how well a gentleman's agreement works out.

Yeah it could go wrong but these things go on and are often followed through with.

Um, why?

Would an extension not be the maximum for five yea...oh wait, I get it. New maximum. [dang]. Wow. You're right. ****. That spoils a lot of options if you're right. But as a silver lining, it opens up a lot of one-year rental options. We have a lot of expendable assets.

Yes, anyone that wouldn't do that deal needs to see a doctor. He is a top 5 player in the world.

I never understand the logic of not giving up drafts for perennial MVP candidates that are in their prime.

Isn't the new max coming in 2018 offseason?  I'm sure a team like the Lakers would take him if he agreed to a one year extension on his current deal.  They will assume he'd resign with them under the new max.  They can offer Russell, Randle, Picks and salary.  Am I wrong on the viability of Lakers as a near future trade option?  Doesn't concern me if the Lakers get him.  So much building to do and no chance to catch Warriors...
