I think this is the best way to go for the rest of this offseason.

Terrence Jones is an underrated yet young, athletic PF who can rebound. More importantly, it looks like he will be extremely cheap as no team seems to be that interested in him. There aren't many rumors about him so far. On a dysfunctional Houston team, he still played well and it was only due to injuries he has regressed a bit. If he stays healthy Stevens can use him well in his system and he could be a short term option at least for this year.

Even with Horford, we still lack some size and need some guys to rebound as well assuming Sully is gone. Jones can fill in for the time being and after this season, when Amir, JJ and Jones are gone, we still have approximately 35-40M in cap space for next season, enough for one max contract at least. This is the approach I would take. What do you guys think?

The thing is, after Horford, there are options available out there that are better than what they have. Jones can do a lot of the things they like--outside/inside 4-- but he seems to be hurt all the time. Misses a lot of games. But not a bad suggestion.

I just mentioned Monroe in another thread. He can score and rebound, and is still only 26. His contract is doable, and the Bucks are on a long and thin kick, so they are trying to get rid of him.

Monroe certainly isn't a bad option. I've heard his defense is horrible though and people would prefer Amir to Monroe... plus Monroe is an expiring deal as well like Amir.

Monroe IMO does not make much sense unless we were in a win now mode. I'd rather keep cap space flexibility for this year- it's not like we are a contender anyway.

I like this idea a lot.  Tjones can block shots and shoot the 3 so he may be a perfect compliment to Horford if he stays healthy.  TP

I don't think Terrence Jones is a good bet.  Just give the minutes to Jerebko.

The thing is, Amir, Monroe are both expiring deals. So if Boston has them for at least one year, they could get rid of them next offseason and still have the ample cap space. Same with Jerebko and as I suggested.. Jones on a cheap deal.

2017-18 is a player option but I see your point; at 17-18 mill he is good value for money in the current environment; my concerns are i. what MIL will ask in exchange and ii. that such a move will take away the possibility of signing two (near) max contracts next summer.

The Celtics are in a win now mode. That's why they got Horford, and were trying to get Durant.
Horford isn't going to wait around while rookies develop. Not at $28 million per. The future is now.

If Milwaukee is trying to get rid of contracts to make room for Wade, I could see them giving up Monroe for just Amir.

Only if Parker is involved. I'd even be willing to toss in Young and S&T Sully, because I'm a nice guy. :P

Theoretically, Jones should be cheap enough to keep Jerebko, given that the Rockets didn't even want to extend a qualifying offer of $3.5 million.  The team is still a little small.  Alternatively we could bring back one of Sully or Zeller.  Jones has shown flashes, although last year he fell off completely.  Free agency has passed him by, and we have $10 million of cap space.  I doubt he'd cost much more than half of that.

Exactly, I think a 1+1 with Jones is a great idea if we don't do anything other than picking up the options of Amir and JJ. Who knows, Jones could become a trade chip in the future for a star or part of the salary coming back in a trade at the deadline. I don't see many other realistic 1+1 options out there. Jones might want to increase his value as well in the future sort of like how Turner increased his in the last two years leading to his big payday.

If Jones is healthy he can contribute well to the Celtics as well.

Or Brown. Absolutely no need to take on more salary and push him down the bench.

This will be another solid year, possibly ECF, but not a championship year. The rebuild continues..
