and it goes back to RED and building a celtic culture, the longevity of celtic all stars and the amount of players that have become coaches,GM's, media personalities and even statues
there now is a distinct possibility durant forgoes that 1 year at OKC
he doesn't want to face a season of scrutiny and westbrook is gone at end of season or  even traded while OKC gets a return
was horfords consideration of the wizards part of durant and going back to washington
durant at 27 still young may pick boston to build his dynasty and legacy to test time like russel, cousy, cowens ,bird and the list of celtic hall of famers-
i think there is now a distinct possibility durant picks boston garden to produce his legacy  starting this year-i believe its about more than a ring
-its legacy in the sports mecca of world

about 18 months since the lowest point just after the rondo trade
inches away from a completely new contender

I've said repeatedly, there's no other person I'd want running this team.  He's the best GM in the business.  Anyone who has ever said "fire ainge" doesn't understand what Ainge has accomplished since taking over this team.

If we get Durant, Danny will easily be the second best GM in the NBA behind only RC Buford. If we win 3 or 4 championships in the next 5 years, he will be able to overtake Buford.

Ainge is the Larry Bird of GM's. He sees things a few moves ahead of most others.

What does that make Larry Bird?

He's the Danny Ainge of GM's? Aggressive and "GM's" with his heart, but he's not the best.

look guys, i do not want to sound like a downer, but durrant has had a pretty good team for years now, and hasn't won a thing.
even if he comes over here, we are in a good position to win banner 18 but still, there is no certainty that we will accomplish so. we would still have to beat teams like Cavs and GSW/SAS and that is a lot to ask for.

I agree. He has, contracts-wise, doen everything within his reasonable control to set us up for this summer. The rest is up to other people's decisions, and at least one has now gone our way.

Even if we sign KD, our bench doesn't look that good if we can't keep Amir and JJ.
Bench of Smart, KO and rookies doesn't cut it for me as a contender.

I like Ainge too.   But I do not think he is the best drafter, though.   He pushes hard on trades and shows a foresight that can see things in the big picture.  I still think he is one of the best.

And that's if we get Durant.
All that being said, Durant and Westbrook being together from day 1 was tough. That team never had any chemistry on the court. When the pressure ramped up they lacked identity.

I know that's all kind of fluffy analysis, but it makes a big difference. I liken it to KG Ray and Pierce saying if they were together earlier in their careers it may not have worked.

Jordan didn't win his first title till 27. Guys need to mature to get that balance of talent, experience, and feel for the moment. Also to learn how to play team defense. Durant is getting there.

Now...I do think that if Durant and Westbrook stay together, that they would figure it out and run off a couple of titles together. I just hope they don't realize that too!

this was a salute to danny for putting the celts in this position, making our team competitive with his trading, for the courage and luck to break up celts and trade with the nets-the luck to have gotten chrowder for rondo-red said danny was lucky-
and hopefully his non trade turns out lucky

He is not the best drafter in the league. But how many guys are plucking stars from where he has drafted from? The only team that does it somewhat consistently is the Spurs. Maybe the Pacers?

Has anyone on the blog took a stab at objectively analyzing draft performance of NBA GMs? Someone should...(finger on nose)
