Just heard Broussard on ESPN say that the Jerry West conversation was originally scheduled for Friday, but they couldn't pull it off, so he agreed to chat Saturday. I originally took the West call to think that Durant had kind of made up his mind and was checking back with GSW today.
Hearing what Broussard said tells me:
a) GSW didn't have their ducks in a row enough to have West connect on the day their pitch was scheduled
b) Durant probably agreed to hear from West at that meeting.
E.g. I don't take it to mean anything more then it was just a part of the original pitch. Doesn't, in itself, signify he's learning towards the Warriors.
Oh crap. Jerry West and Pat Riley?
We're doomed, lol
.
What exactly is Jerry West going to tell him? Don't go to Boston because they beat the crap out of his Laker teams back in the day?
Come on .... Boston is a stone's throw from your home KD, and Boston is NBA Royalty. You become an instant mover and shaker. Your media power increases ten-fold. Nike wants you in Boston.
So is Jerry West, and if history has shown us anything, it's that what Jerry West wants is what Jerry West gets, whether it's Shaq, convincing Calipari not to take Kobe in 96 because he's The Logo or something, lol, threatening to resign from Golden State if they had traded Thompson for Kevin Love, and he presided over that 2012 draft, where the Warriors just got an incredible amount of talent despite only having one top 10 pick. That's not a coincidence, imo. The man knows talent, and with Red gone, he's the best in the business, imo. Still. Underestimate him at your own risk, lol
