Glad it isn't us. What's the point of paying a 31 year old (who is already showing signs of regression) that much money over 4 years.

Then why sign Horford max deal?

I don't advocate for signing Horford to a max deal. I think it's too much for a guy that will turn 34 at the end of the contract. But if Danny thinks it's the right move, so be it.

The only time I would consider giving Horford a max deal is if it results in Durant joining our team.

The Lakers are the example of what happens when a team's cap space is burning a hole in its pocket.

They blew what, $50 million per year on Deng, Clarkson and Mozgov?

Yup. Terrible.
Good news for Celtics fans is it makes LAL just good enough to not threaten the Nets in the lottery again.   ;)

Luol Deng is a good signing for the Lakers, but 4 years is just so darn long...

He's one of those veterans that can still be productive and guide along the young bucks. $18 million per year seems pretty high but if he seems to still have a lot left in the tank, especially if he plays PF, a position where he flourished last year. It will be at the expense of Julius Randle starting, but maybe that's what he needs to be better.

But four years... Jesus... I wanted Luol Deng for the Celtics, but not for that long...

Yeah people complain about DA not spending. But I'd rather him not spend then tie up money on Meh players.

The Lakers first rounder goes to Philly next year if it isn't top 3, so they've got no reason to not try and be as good as they can.  They're years from even thinking about being a contender.  It's not like Deng's contract will keep them out of the Durant sweepstakes next year.

Mike

I expect the Lakers to get another top 3 pick.  That's why the Deng signing seems a little weird (a threat to being top 3 bad).  But maybe they don't see him as a threat to sucking real bad.  Look around the league.  How many teams are worse?  Just the Nets at this point...I expect Philly to be a few wins better than the Lakers...

At least one can argue that Clarkson is young, but Deng and Mozgov are incredibly bizarre moves.
Who's scoring for this team next year? Is Deng moving back to 3? Competing with Randle for minutes at 4, taking time away from Mozgov as a small ball 5?

Nah, even if they are top 2 bad, they still aren't even close to guaranteed a top 3 pick. They were lucky last year to get the 2nd pick in a [supposed] two player draft. I can't imagine why they would sign Mozgov and Deng if they weren't at least trying to get out of being a bottom team.

Well, at least we now know LAL will be mired in mediocrity for the foreseeable future now.
