Again no big man.....and again there will be no championship.....earth to DA we need a big man who can play....get it.  I know you were a guard but you need big men to win in the NBA.

Now we have just another grit and hustle guy that can't shoot at one of our strongest positions at the wing, who may or may not end up decent.

.... do you realize we have one wing?

He's a 2-3, just like Crowder and Young and Smart who is primarily played as a 2 and plays the three in a lot of our small-ball lineups with IT and Bradley. So, yeah, we're already crowded there.

Maybe we should've just traded Crowder to the Bulls either at the deadline or tonight, then we'd have plenty of room for him.  ;)

It's too early to tell if any of the moves today were objectively bad, but at this point it's hard to shake the feeling that we'll simply never be able to make the trade that vaults us back into relevancy.

There will Never ever EVER be Fireworks with this team---Because we have a GM who cannot draft to save his life...and has burned his bridges around the league with past trades---!!

Free agents--?..don't make me laugh.

Smart is not a SF.  IMO he already plays at SG too much.  Young shouldn't even play.  We have one wing.

The Celtics need a good sized three.

This whole thing where the Celts were only offered rip offs.....yeah. That's BS. We saw an all star go for the 12th pick and saw Thaddeus Young go for the 20th pick.

What it comes down to is that this is an owner that promised fireworks two years ago and his team simply hasn't gotten it done when it comes to using the assets the team has.

Hey Wyc....I don't believe you were only offered rip offs. Either that happened and you are incompetent to get things done....or....that didn't happen and you are lying to us.  So just stop. Just own it and say "We tried and we couldn't get it done."  And then shut up.  Open your mouth again when you get your job done. But not before. I don't hate Jaylen Brown at all. But coming away with a college freshman wasn't the job tonight.
We couldn't take another point guard.  We have 7 guards.   I kept telling people that if we did that, we'd have a worst log-jam than Philly.  You'd have like 24 minutes total to split between Smart and Dunn off the bench.  What kind of trade value do you expect a couple guards to have when they are getting like 12 minutes per night.    Then we would have had zero minutes to give Rozier, Hunter, Young... Doing that you're basically killing the trade value of both of major swings (Smart and Dunn) and completely destroying any hope of having trade value of our d-leaguers.

At least with Brown, he can get SF minutes off the bench.  And there might be a smallball lineup that makes sense with him at SF and Crowder at PF.  He's 19 years old... so even if he's a dud out of the gate like Marcus Smart, there's at least two years of the fansbase making excuses for him and expecting him to make a leap.

I don't know what kind of player Brown will be, but if he's a "poor man's Justice Winslow", as I heard him described a couple weeks ago, that's a pretty brutal outcome of having two Top 6 picks in the past few years... that's assuming he just ends up a role player.

Luckily we have Brooklyn's pick this year and next year, so there's two more opportunities for us to add defensive bulldogs who struggle scoring.

I think the draft was a letdown for a lot of fans, after all the drama about Dunn and the leverage for a trade Ainge may have had. None of that materialized. Instead, Ainge drafted a kid who probably will not have a big impact next year.

Ainge did not get much of an upgrade of team weaknesses in this draft. He better do that in trades and FA signings.

He tends to draft the best player he sees, regardless of need. I think the Celtics are at a point where needs should be addressed if they are to get better. I don't see that yet.
Athletic Small forward was a need.. We only have Crowder under contract..
we have a guy that can excell in Small ball which is what CBS loves to run.. Strong finisher (we have ZERO strong finishers)
The kid has all the tools and a super high Ceiling..
this was a Great pick for us.. Maybe not for next year but in the upcoming years.
This Pick had CBS written all over it.

I follow that logic. I didn't say they should draft a guard. They did anyway with D Jackson, but here we are. To me this goes back to the part where Ainge fudged up on the T Rozier pick last year, which was total puke. When you mess up a draft sometimes it has an echo effect and you mess up again later and now here we are drafting backups with the 3rd overall pick. I think at some point you also have to own your mistakes and realize you messed up the M Smart pick, so maybe you take Dunn or Murray and say "One of these guys is going to emerge and the other will be a decent backup and get paid like it."  Because if you just insist M Smart is a great guard that's cute but wishful thinking doesn't make it so.

I'm glad he is insulting your intelligence the way fans treat this team. Maybe you are insulting his. Draft made sense to me considering the offers out there and what I thought the celtics were trying to do.  If that's insulting your intelligence so be it.

Most fans don't even try to see what the celtics are tryiing to do. They are just in their own worlds.

I find your post insulting. I've explained my thinking over and over and it made sense to me. You take the best player if vs taking on players that don't fit us.

When I was a kid my dad said "purgatory" and I thought he said "Burger King" and it struck me as sorta an odd place to go when you die, but fair enough. I think if I went to Burger King right now I'd see Sully and Fab Melo in there. Then Draymond Green would drive by in his ferrari with a vanity plate that says "Heaven" and honk.

I don't believe in "try." I also don't believe it's an insult to call something what it is. The Celtics have failed in draft night quite badly quite a few times now. That's not an insult. If it hurts Ainge's feelings or something that's too darn bad. Do your job.

What did philly offer us noel, covington(who is a worse version of crowder) plus 2 late firsts when we already had 8 picks.

Okafor and Noel have much bigger questions than Jaylen brown as a player and person.

Let minny haggle over Butler.  We can still go after him but Brown might be a better player.

Milwaulkee was offering us crap too.  Chicago wanted way too much for Butler as well.
