I think what happened was the Bulls were not interested in what the Celtics had to offer until the Thad Young trade happened. That trade on paper makes the Nets worse than they already are, and considering next years class is going to be loaded, the Bulls all the sudden thought, "Hey, maybe we can get both Kris Dunn and a high lottery pick next year!" They wanted Danny to overpay for Butler or no deal.
It was an underpayment for the #3 from Philly, an overpayment for Butler, or just select the guy that we wanted all along. You can't always get what you want.
