This is an interesting article although DA is still going to be trying to get the best possible player this year to make moves later?

In other words, Grousbeck pulled his annual stunt, and still doesn't want to spend any money.

Glad I'm not paying for season tickets in that scenario. What's that old canard about a fool and his money being soon parted?

The jist I get is ff it's true that we are out of the Butler sweepstakes right now. That doesn't mean we can't add a guy who can net us Butler later, which could lead to Durant.  Chicago doesn't want to deal Butler right now.  Durant is also going to return to OKC.  Fireworks may be coming though even still.  We might just need to wait.

It might not even be Butler and Durant.  But we can keep targetting those guys in some pipedream.  Or add players to get us Boogie or whoever.

Making a deal for Okafor isn't going to kill anything.  Or just drafting.  But we want the best possible players that are attractive to other teams.

I hope we trade for Okafor and Saric somehow in that regard.

which means that the Danny doesn't see any deals that he can 'win'....possibly get a win-win but not outright 'win'

Good cause I want Jaylen, or possibly Ingram, in green.

True.

But in the meantime, I wouldn't hesitate to tell Paxson and Gar Forman I was taking Kris Dunn.

Just to take their temperature.

I agree with him.   With the cap explosion, there is certainly a temptation to spend.  However, spending just for the sake of spending and clogging up your cap space.  Rather than overspend, worst case scenario, you can always roll it back another season.  I know in the instant gratification age, that isn't exactly what fans want to hear but it certainly can spell better for the future.

This summer could mean the difference between going the treadmill direction for years or keeping their options up and continue to trend upwards.

You can possibly that naive, can you?

I'd ask you the same question.

How many times are you going to let Grousbeck cry wolf before you hold him accountable?

It seems to always be "Wait until next year" with this franchise.

It has been since they cheaped out on James Posey after the title.

Eight years.

So Dunn should be the pick.  He is attractive to Chicago and other teams.

Thinking this is about Grousbeck not wanting to spend... delusional.

Wait until next year seems to be more of a basketball failing than a money failing.

I believe Ainge and Wyc understand that overpaying for players that hamstring flexibility and dont vault us to contention are bad basketball moves. I think its fair to criticize Wyc for his fireworks type comments, but I dont think Wyc will ever veto an Ainge move because he doesnt wanna spend the money.
