This news is absurd. I hear it from the news outlets, I see 200 posts on here about it. Stop the madness. Many teams covet the third pick enough to trade a GOOD player away for it (and usually some other considerations). What is happening now, is called posturing. It happens in every negotiation. Do I think all the players Danny is going after are available? probably not. Danny is low-balling to start "re-negotiations" on draft night where HE left them off. If no one comes crawling back, then we take BPA, and no one is the worse off. Then we take Dunn or Brown, they become borderline All-Stars by year 3, and everyone regrets not trading for them. I think Danny set the table on the #3. He needs to move away from that now (revisit on draft night) and start consolidating other lesser draft assets. A few teams have 0 total picks in this draft, and others only first or second rounders. I think Danny should be shopping the #23 for future first round considerations, and the later second rounders for future second round consideration. The Knicks and Blazers want in on this draft. I am sure there are other teams too. Ideally the Celtics would like to have TOPS 3 rookies from this draft. We have 8 picks.

Take a deep breath. Relax.

It's all simply posturing and media speculation. Trades never go down until draft night anyway because teams want to see if someone falls before they send off their pick in a trade.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Plus, assets become players on draft night. Puts the whole thing in perspective. MJ turned down 6 mediocre picks to take an arguably mediocre player. I'd rather have 6 spins on that wheel.

not sure if nobody wants the #3 pick or Danny is asking for way more for the #3 pick?

He is, and that's the point. He is setting the table for draft night talks. Maybe these teams come back to the table (at which point, he knows he is going to get closer to what he wants vs. what they want) or they don't (In which case we take BPA).

I wouldn't pay much attention to anything Stern says about the Celtics. He rarely mentions them, and it's never positive. The New Yorkers at ESPN have been known to "deflate" Boston teams.  ::)

He did mention Philly is trying to get Dunn from the Celtics for Okafor or Noel. Seems that Noel is now on the table for Philly. They are desperate for Dunn.

He did not mention Love. That could be significant, as we shall see.

It is pretty stupid. The last few days has everyone coveting Dunn, who is likely to go where?

With no trades, then free agency would be key.

If Danny could sign Horford and Batum for 4 years, and somehow move up from #16 with Rozier and other assets to get to 5 or 6, he could draft Brown and Chriss.

In 4 years, let Horford and Batum walk, and then Brown and Chriss are 23 years old, new contracts signed and ready to go.

The key is getting to 5 or 6.  Trade Amir, Rozier, 16, 23, and if you have to Olynyk (prefer James Young) to either Minny or NO and take back Asik or Pek. Its a lot to pay to move up from 16. Taking on a bad contract isnt horrible with the salary cap going up so much. Both NO and Minny could use rozier at pg.

Horford  Mickey
Crowder  Chriss
Batum  Brown
Bradley  Smart
IT

Getting to 6 works really well. Even if Chriss and Bender go 4 and 5, you can take Dunn at 6 and still have a trade to philly available. If Chriss and Dunn go 4 and 5, then you can take Bender at 6 or possibly trade back down for one of the other bigs likely to go in the 10-12 range.

If getting to 5 or 6 doesnt work, surely getting to 10, 11, or 12  using 16 and 23 could work. Skal, Poeltl, Ellenson, or Davis might be good fits.

I like how you assume they become borderline all stars. Because all #3 picks become borderline all stars.

Or maybe they become journeymen and people are relieved they kept players that became actual all stars.

I suspect there is plenty of interest in this pick and there will be offers for Danny to consider.

For example, I bet Philly is offering something like Okafor and #26 for Smart and #3.  Danny is at Smart and #16 for Okafor.  Same type of discussion for Middleton, Parker, Butler, and now maybe Hayward.

I still believe a trade will go down.  Maybe not a "big" trade involving the #3 but the offer gaps will start to close up as the draft gets closer.

There have been zero pick trades in the past week. Does that mean no one wants any pick?

They are playing a game that most of us can only dream about playing.

Negotiating is a skill with a lot of moving parts, to include your past deals, your present assets, and your future options.

You don't always get what you want...but you can live with what you get!

Not to entirely disagree with your point but roughly half of them become All-Stars.

I kind of like those odds.
