chad ford tweeted this a little while ago:

"Celtics (#3), Suns (#4), Wolves (#5), Pelicans (#6), Nuggets (#7), Kings (#8) all shopping their lottery picks"

This competition could make it harder for us to trade our pick for anything decent. On the other hand, we've heard rumors that teams, especially Philly, are enamored with Kris Dunn. Those clubs will likely need that #3 pick to get him, so we still have some leverage.

Also, regardless of what we do with #3, I wonder if there's any chance we trade up to get #6, #7, or #8. Would be nice to get Hield if he slips, or take a flier on Bender; I'd also love to get Deyonta Davis, he has some nice tools and high upside, won't be surprised if he goes earlier than expected.

Thoughts?

Both good and bad.

Good because obviously number three is the best of the bunch and the only way to know for sure that you get your guy, which most have as Dunn.

Bad because it saturates the market and lessens Danny's hand if he plays hardball.

"Everyone is open to trading at the right price" is not exactly an Earth-shattering statement.

Here's the deal though. All of those other teams behind us? They mean nothing. Because if someone wants a certain player in this top 8 they're going to need our pick to be guaranteed to get them.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

This might sound like terrible news, but at #3 we remain in the driver's seat.

In fact, knowing we are shopping our pick (meaning who gets picked at #3 is more uncertain) will mostly just devalue those other picks. Even someone trading for #4 can't be guaranteed that their guy will be there.

Any suitor (including those in the lower range of the top 8 ) who wants to be SURE will still want our pick far more than any other in the #3-8 range.

Edit: I guess potter and Granath were thinking the same thing, but either thinking or typing faster than me, or both.

Nothing except a team may be able to get a guy if he slips to a spot they have enough to trade for.

While it's hard to trust Ainge to make the right pick, it's easier to trust him to make the right trade. He's excellent at extracting value, so i don't think he'll make a bad deal just to get out in front of, say, PHX trading their pick first.

I can see this more than anything because Danny is probably playing hardball and 'knowing' that Danny likes to fleece teams, other GMs may be less likely to deal with Danny for fear they may be giving up too much. Its different if 3-8 were different tiers of players, but #3 could go as low as #8....wierd...
I'm really just looking to see what other rumors are out there. I thought we'd see a whole lot of rumors so far, but to me, its kinda slow being about 50 hours from the draft.

Did you like the Sebastian Telfair for the no. 7 pick in 2006? I hated that trade. Could have had Rudy Gay, who went 8.

League sources tell http://hoopscritic.com that the Celtics' target in trade talks with Philadelphia is Nerlens Noel

Assuming that's what we're after, picks #4-8 are pretty irrelevant. Philly definitely wants #3 to draft Dunn.

I find it hard to believe he would make the right trade either. He literally almost traded like 5-6 picks for Justice Winslow. If Philly drops out as a trade partner I'm thoroughly worried.

How reliable is this guy? seems like clickbait to me. the website says nothing.

Yeah, if it's Philly then they HAVE to have number three to get Dunn, because you know Danny is almost guaranteed to take him now with his trade value.

I kind of assumed that Noel has been more of the target than Okafor for awhile, because they're hesitant to deal Noel over Okafor. I don't see why, though, because they're not going to pay him next summer anyways. I think if we were wanting Okafor, a deal probably already would have been in place.

Celts have the leverage--they have Dunn at #3. Other teams irrelevant. Except Lakers. But Celts would get Ingram if Lakers picked Dunn.
