The Knicks have had internal discussions recently about trading for Derrick Rose, according to ESPN NY's Ian Begley.

Makes sense they have to try something, all I care about is they are better than the Nets. ;)

He may be a good fit with Melo. It makes sense for NY. They don't have many other options to add to their team and still keep Melo and not mortgage their future.

I don't think it happens.  My gut says Chicago won't move on from their former franchise player without a sizable package, one that would make no sense.

If Rose goes, does Butler stay?

The Knicks have no assets to offer for him (Porzingas and Melo are off limits) and since he's on his last year of his contract, it's not happening.....

Knicks trading for Rose would be classic Knicks.

Even in his prime, I felt Rose was possibly the most overrated MVP in history.  They only reason they gave it to him is because people didn't want to vote for LeBron after he joined Miami.

I believe so.

If the reported price for Bulter is true.

Its a real stretch but I wonder if the Cs could get involved in a 3 team Rose to the Knicks deal and come away with Lopez? I really have no idea what the Bulls are expecting to net in return for Rose but given his health and career trajectory I hope they don't expect much.

maybe

Cs get Lopez

Knicks get Rose

Bulls get Rozier + #16

Lopez is an upgrade from Amir and has shown some ability as a mid range shooter. He would clearly bring an upgrade as a rim protector and rebounder.

Not really, it would be a savvy move in my opinion.  He is a huge expiring deal.  He still has some ability, and they need a point guard.  Maybe a change of scenery will do him some good.

But there is no way he is going to NY without the #14 going with him.  So it makes even more sense from that standpoint as they get back into the draft.

Rose + #14 for Calderon and Afflalo works.  Then Chicago moves Butler for a ton of picks and some young guys and the tank is in full effect.

Yes if Isaiah Thomas was still running the team.

A Melo-Rose-Porzingis trio could do some damage.

Well that's why I think it's likely to happen. He's one of the few players out there where they don't have to offer assets to get him, in fact they will receive assets along with him, like a 1st round pick, which the Knicks have been clearly after in this draft.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I don't think the Bulls will have to give up anything of value to trade Rose (ie, #14). His best days are obviously behind him, but he is on an expiring contract and a lot of teams have lots of money to spend. Somebody will likely take a chance on him, even if it is just in the hopes that he can help a veteran roster off the bench. A smaller expiring for Rose also makes plenty of sense for the Bulls.
