These two players outside of Simmons, Ingram have the highest upside of the entire 2016 draft.  I would include Dunn on this list also, but because the Celts are loaded at the guard position plus he balked at the opportunity to workout/provide medical records he wont considered as an option.

Both Brown and Chriss are explosive , strong for their age and possess some nice skills.

Brown positive:  Knifing through traffic for the finish. Terror in the open court.   Versatile defender.

Brown negative:  Set jump shooter.  Unable to maximize his athleticism with the jump shot (dribble stop and pop at highest point, fadeaway jump shot,  unable to run around screens and shoot a jump shot -not in balance-  one motion). Will try to do too much like drive in against 3 defenders instead of making the easy pass/right play

Brown overall fit/outlook:. If all things go well,  think Derozan. Mechanical shooting but able to get to the basket.  Able to play the game between the post and free line very well. Able to get to the FT line.  Versatile defense

Chriss Strength:. At 6'10 with the type of explosiveness plus good strength already (and lets say add another 5-10 pounds), Chriss could be well near unstoppable.   He is too athletic/quick for most pfs and too big for most sfs to handle.  But he is not a tweener bc he has strength/length to hold his own against pfs and is explosive/quick to hold his own vs sfs.   Unlike Brown has a nice jump shot stroke he can pair with his athleticism.  Driblble stop and pop in a blink of an eye. Can dribble stop and fadeaway (could be unguardable) in one motion.    Can play way above the rim like Blake Griffin. Acrobatic finishes around the rim and devasting dunks. Very good shot blocker

Chriss negative:  2 things. Feel for game is mediocre. Maybe he thinks he can score against anybody or even against 2 players he has not needed to pass the ball much.   Passes are usually projectable.  Good handles for a PF but overall loose and dribbles a bit high.   On the defensive end looks to block shots instead of securing rebounds.   Rebounding the ball is not the issue as he is a very good offensive rebounder.

Chriss overall fit/outlook:. If all goes well think Jamal Mashburn.  A inside/outside scoring machine.  Versatile defender.

If you guys think Danny is going to draft based on upside (I think he will swing for the fences myself) he will pick either of these two players at 3.  The reward wont be immediate but by next season people could talk about the draft that featured Simmon, Ingram and Brown/Chriss

Final prediction:  If Danny feels Browns slashing ability is "special" "extraordinary" he may pick him.  But considering height/size , fluid jump shot plus all the other goodies , Celtics draft Chriss.

And If we grab Sabonis with the other pick.

Sabobis plus Chriss future froncourt could click real nice. Sabonis grabbing the defensive rebounds, passing the ball, managing the "details" up front. And let Chriss breathe/roam block shots, grab offensive rebounds, run in transition and showoff his dunks

The opposite.  Was big fan of Mashburn when he was at UK and liked the Triple J's even though they ended up doing squat.

I'm just curious how you see Mashburn in Chriss?  What aspects of their games?

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
My ideal draft has us getting two of Murray, Bender, Brown and Chriss.

Chriss scares me a lot because of his lack of basketball IQ, but if we are taking him with a pick in the 6-8 range I'm all for it. The best ceiling comp I've heard for Chriss is Amare with a 3 point shot on offense, Shawn Marion on defense.

It made me feel a lot better about him when I heard that Washington switches everything, which meant he had to play away from the hoop a lot on defense and that's why his rebounding numbers were awful.

I'm a big Brown fan. His shot doesn't seem to have anything structurally wrong with it, he just seems to have bad footwork leading up to the shot. Bad footwork can be corrected with disciplined practice, where a player that has a hitch in his shot is hopeless.

Brown played good defense last year and I think could contribute sooner rather than later on that end in the NBA. He also flashed the ability to create off the dribble, which is important especially if he's replacing Turner as our back up 3.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Nice breakdown.

I agree that a Chriss and Sabonis frontcourt could be nice.

I like Chriss but I like Brown a little more.

1. He's approaching this as a job.  He's getting up at 5:30 everyday to get to work.
2. He's been consistently ranked high in his class for years now.
3. He was held back by his team and coach.  Not enough spacing and the bigs did the rebounding.
4. Jimmy Butler recently commented that Jaylen reminds him of himself back in the day.
5. He can guard 1-4.

So again I like Chriss, if he's the pick that's fine.

But I like Brown just a little more.

These guys are only 18 so they can still grow and of course get stronger...

If you look at Chriss they guy has the potential to be something special ... think Deandre Jordon with an outside game ..

Brown I see mini Lebron ... I know im selling that a bit high but its potential ... dude gets to the rim and crushes it

Brown. Criss looks more like an athlete than a basketball player to me.

But I wouldn't take either one of them at 3. I'd take Dunn and start dealing from the guard surplus.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Size plus perimeter skills.   Both 6'10 and good length/strength/athleticism.

Yeah, I don't like this comparison either. I still say he has Anthony Davis/Anthony Davis-lite type potential and ceiling, and that's the best comparison to who he could ultimately be. He's big, athletic, long, and can spread the floor with a silky smooth jumpshot. He'll probably never be as good as AD, but his ceiling/comp is AD, imo.

Jamal Mashburn wasn't 6'10".

I'd be fine with either of these players. We need talent and high ceiling players on this roster. I like Hield, but I think his ceiling is limited to somewhere around JJ Reddick. I'm not keen on one-way players like Murray, either, and I'm not big on Dunn with who we already have on the roster.

I'd like Chriss over Brown due to Chriss' immense potential, but I'd be fine with either of these guys due to their two-way potential and high ceilings. As Lebron is currently showing us in the Finals, a supremely athletic, two-way forward is hard to stop in this league.
