What about this 3 way trade idea (principal pieces)

To Wolves: Butler
To Celtics: Wiggins, 14th pick (from Bulls)
To Bulls: 3rd, 5th, 23rd pick, Rozier, Dieng

Yay or nay?

Probably have to replace that 23 pick with the 16 pick and take out Dieng and add another piece from us (Young?), but I'd definitely do that trade. I'm a major Wiggins fan, and he'd be an excellent fit here long-term.

Good job with the trade. That's actually decently fair all around.

So let me get this straight the Wolves acquire only Butler and give up Wiggins, Dieng, and 5.  What world are you living in?

Yes please! Do that deal without batting an eye.

No idea though why the Wolves would give up the 5th and Wiggins for Butler but Tom is a new GM so....
ok fine

Laughable. Wiggins is worth far more than Butler, never mind Butler and Dieng, never mind the 5th, Butler and Dieng. Are you drunk or did you forget to include the two unprotected 1sts that are going to back to Minny in this deal?

Butler ain't Lebron you know. He's not even Paul George. In fact he may not be significantly worth more than IT.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Imo Thibs really wants Butler . To lead the young but talented wolves squad. Show the team what hard work (especially on the defensive end) really means.

Celtics on the other hand can "raise" wiggins game to another level.  He could also really feed off the energy from the Celtics fan

Bulls get a freah start. See them taking Dunn with the third pick and someone like Marquese Chriss or Jaylen Brown with the 5th.

So how come the cavs gave up wiggins , another former number pick (Bennett - at the time value still high) for Love?

Because they were in "win now" mode.  It had nothing to do with Wiggins and everything to do what they thought Love could give them right away.

They probably would leave the Celtics out of this and just trade Butler for Wiggins but I have no idea why the Wolves would do this since Wiggins is much younger and makes very little money. He also has upside left while Butler is an excellent player but with little upside.

Did you actually walk through this from each team's perspective?

Wiggins, Dieng and #5 for Butler might be the biggest overpay I've seen all summer on this board. Minnesota does Wiggins straight-up at the most... they'd probably want Butler and the #14.

And then we somehow end up with Wiggins and a lottery pick for #3 and scraps?

You must really hate Minnesota.

Thanks Donoghus. I literally facepalmed that he felt the need to ask that question and thus my answer would have been considerably more snarky.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Yeah, to clean this up a bit, it would probably have to be something like:

Cs: Wiggins
Minny: Butler
Chi: 3, 16, Dieng, Rozier

But I agree that a Wiggins for Butler swap is probably the easiest for both sides - no reason to bring the Cs into it.

Again, where are the 2 first round picks for Minny? Wiggins is worth more than Butler (age, production, contract) and Dieng is no slouch.

Isn't Wiggins a projected defensive stud? Why on earth would Thibs even think of trading him for Butler??
