 From the herald today.

In the event they make and keep the third overall pick, the Celts have narrowed their thoughts to, according to Stevens, “seven or eight” players.

“I’ve got a good idea when I talk to Danny and the front office about who they’re really targeting and focused on as far as those seven or eight guys,” Stevens said. “But we’ve got so many picks that you can’t stop there.

So let's speculate on who the seven or eight players is.

Simmons (assuming he slips)
Ingram (assuming he slips)
Bender
Chriss
Brown
Hield
Murray

Dunn is out because of his agent not providing the medical to the team. If it's eight, not seven, then I think he's part of it.

By the numbers...

So judging by those comments C's feel there is a big drop off after 7 or 8.

We have a glut of draft picks.

We will probably look to move up to one of these ranges with a willing team. Sacramento looks the most likely since they have the 8th pick, but don't pick again until #59.

I feel like this isn't news
As we all knew that they'd be targeting players in this tier
And it would be unlikely to deviate from this tier with such a high pick at 3

No surprises. The top 7 prospects in the draft.

My guess for the 7

Bender
Chriss
Brown
Poeltl
Murray
Hield
Labissiere

Brown we know the Cs worked out

Bender we know they visited and are suppose to have come in for a workout

Labissiere i read was going to work out for all the teams in the top 10

Chriss is the current hyped player I wonder if this is a smoke screen to raise his stock

Hield/Murray fit the current need for shooting

Poeltl would have a legit chance at playing next season somthing most of these guys cant say.

As this draft nears my gut tells me DA is up to some miss direction. If he cant flip #3 for a star or Okafor then he is best served boosting the stock of the players he isnt interested in. If Brown and Chriss are not his guys but he has lead people to believe other wise this could potentially get other team to give them additional looks to see if they are missing something. This may open up the possibility of a trade down if a team is sold on a player DA isnt interested in and they feel the need to move up to get him.

I have said before #3 for Dieng and #5, #3 for Faried and #7 and #3 for Monroe and #10 all make sense to me.

Giving up the #3 is way too much for Dieng.  There is potential we can find a star here.   We have to pick the right guy is all but there is a lot of quality at 3.   I more thought stevens was talking about the entire draft though.

If the Celtics do things right we'll end up with a young star or trade it for one.  None of those guys are that.  Plus get a free agent and maybe something bigger than expected.

There is too much talent in this draft to not get a star or very impactful player out of this pick.

He said 3 for Dieng and the 5th pick held by Minny, which I doubt Minny would agree to.

Oh my bad.  Yeah that's kind of lopsided in our favor.  All 3 of them.

We should be looking to maximize our talent level I guess is the point though.  I don't like middling players that way although all of those guys are appealing.

I'd rather resign guys like Turner etc or even Sully or go after another free agent and pick the player we want in ways.

As far as guys like to hate on Turner and Sully they may be had cheaper where we can add much better free agents.

Plus stay at 3 and draft the player we want.

Does it really matter?  It's not like he's going to play any of them, anyway.

Well if they're hard workers he will ie Smart,  Rozier, Hunter etc dont ya reckon?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I don't think Ogaju knows what it means. He probably heard somewhere and thought it sounded "cool".
