I'm reading so many trade rumor threads and I'm not expecting any one of them to actually happen but I'm also assuming all of them are true. I assume (and hope) that Danny is calling the Bulls and talking about Butler. I assume he's had contract with Kevin Durant's people. I assume he's talked to the 76ers and everybody else about the #3 pick. Because that's his job and there are so many choices with the assetts the team has aquired, he should be talking to everybody about everything.

A lot of smoke screens out there right now.  But there is definitely a lot of discussion.  A lot of it probably gets brought up and shot down.

I'm really excited to see what Ainge does this year.  This could be the draft/trade season that sets us up for a championship or we might get zero fireworks and instead draft a young star potential player and have to wait to see him develop.

If they are all true the Celtics will need 50 roster spots. Maybe the NBA will let us play 3 teams?

They can all be true, because at most they say "Philly and Bos are talking about ....".   Very few will come to fruition.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
With the cap going up. Trades are less likely to happen. We can talk about a Phily big Butler and cousins but I don't see it happening. Hoiberg needs Buttler and Sac wants to give boogie a run with the new coach. I see Phily trading with Atlanta before us. So we can hope for some true trades but our best bet is for us to see if we can get 3 top 15 picks and sign JJ and Amir and wait till Feb deadline to make our move.

That's the point. None of these reports have even come close to saying that a deal is imminent. All everybody writes is the noncommital "they're talking" which is almost definitely true. Ainge and his staff are doing their dilligence which means asking everybody questions, which constitutes "talking" even though it means nothing for a deal.

Well, it's quite possible there won't be a deal until draft night.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Sure. I wouldn't expect there to be. Everything I read, I assume the "talks" happened but that the deal will almost certainly not happen. So everytime someone posts a "rumor" thread, it's like "Yeah I bet they did talk and it matters none."

Hopefully nobody alerts the Bulls that Jimmy Butler is the secret key to acquiring Kevin Durant.

Lol, good one.  But if there's one team less likely than the Celtics to land Durant this summer, it's Chicago.

Maybe.  They could just dump off Derrick Rose on Philly for a 2nd round pick if they wanted to... Philly is desperate for guard help and needs to get over the salary floor somehow.  Rose is eating up 21 million dollars in salary cap, but it only signed through next season.   By doing that, Chicago could easily have enough money to sign Durant and additional support around Butler, Mirotic, McBuckets, Portis, etc.

Nets are another team with nothing to lose and cap space who probably wouldn't mind taking Rose off Chicago's hands.

Alls I'm saying is... if Ricky Butler is the magic path towards Durant, let's just hope Chicago doesn't have an internet connection to see the zillions of blog posts talking about Boston's "plan".
