Our current team, with Durant added to it, would a very legitimate chance of beating the Cavs. And we would manhandle the rest of the east, including Toronto.

Boston would be a wise. Voice for Durant - he'll end up winning rings and raising his Jersey in the rafters

My ideal scenario would be.
1. Sign Durant
2. Sign Horford or Pau Gasol
3. Draft Brown or best based on Evan @ #3
4. Best center or maybe just best player available at #16
5. I'd probably take a flier on Hammons, Zizic or Maker at 23 and 31
(I think Hammons has an NBA body, good footwork, a nasty edge and a good understanding of how to use his body in the paint)
(If Maker could turn in to a high energy defensive version of Ben Wallace I'd be thrilled.
6. Build the European stable with 35 onward

I'd be "super thrilled" with that outcome.

Howard is too old .  Can he play 80 games and 30 minutes plus a game .....I doubt it .

We need a Young Big like Noel or Oakfor  ......then add Howard

Howard would have to be used conservatively to make him last till playoff

Got to have a young active center .    Zeller an't cutting the mustard.

Strongly agree. Any scenario in which we land Durant would be amazing. I also still like Dwight, provided he gets less than the max.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

I'd be happy but this isn't really what I want. I don't like Dwight Howard. Houston makes the third team in a row he's about to leave having made himself pretty unwelcome in the locker room. He's getting old, his skills are diminishing, and I don't think his game is going to age well.

I'm assuming getting him would mean signing a long term deal. If we got Durant and signed Howard to something like a 2 year deal with a team optino for the 3rd, I'd feel better but I don't think Howard would take something like that.

This is a trap question. Of course we all want Durant as do all other fan bases. But to put these two names together is pointless. Howard is old and washed up. He is gonna be very expensive with no real value coming back. I don't want him. If it went not signing Durant, I'd rather not sign Durant then to be stuck with a very expensive Howard who won't show any interest in going to the finals. I personally don't think even Dwight Howard wants to be in Boston. He's been spoiled his entire career playing in warm weather cities. Orlando, Los Angeles and Houston. I can't see him coming to Boston anyways. I don't like Howard an thinks he pulls a David Lee on us when things don't go his way. I'm all set... Pass...

I'd be ecstatic! I think we're beating Cleveland and whoever comes out of the west (Warriors, Spurs, whoever).

Definitely beat the old-manned Spurs.

And with the guards that we still would have, neutralizing Curry and Thompson should be fun.
Howard and Durant will destroy them on offense.

Dwight Howard was tied for third in rebounds per game last season, was #15 in blocks and out scored every current Celtic big, even on a team that was a league-wide joke for not getting him the ball.

Now, he's 30 and probably needs to be limited to about 32 minutes a game for health reasons and will likely expect a max deal.  But just adding Howard, no Durant and no draft pick and no other free agents, would likely make us the 2nd best team in the East.

Exactly. This team has some of the most terrific role players in the league (AB, Crowder, Smart, Turner, JJ, KO). The biggest problem is that these role players are collectively being asked to fill a superstar's role by committee. While that's effective in stretches, it tends to get exposed in the playoffs.

Enter KD (and Dwight. Yes, I'm convinced Dwight still got game and he fills a huge need in the middle), and it just gets easier for everyone because they can focus on what they do best. I think we'll be a better team than this year's OKC and current ECF champ Cavs. Plus, we'd still match up well with GSW.

Mostly happy with the Durant signing.

Howard has regeressed into a rather limited player in today's NBA.  But if he gives us solid rebounding and defense, he would fill a role that allows the rest of the team to focus on offense.

Not sure Howard would be happy in a Stevens 'share the ball' system though.

Durant is a competitor and I think he would relish the opportunity to dethrone James in the East. I think he realizes that joining forces with Golden State or San Antonio would diminish his legacy and prevent him from ever claiming to be the best player in the NBA. I also suspect he suspects this was his last shot at overcoming Golden State and San Antonio in the near-future in the West. However, if he were to join the East and displace James' reign, arguments could be made that he is the best player in the NBA.

Put it all together, and I think there is a shot of Durant joining us.

You do it no matter what guys you should know that. If he wants us to sign Howard  draft Hield at #3 you do it. Because Durant would be the best player in Boston since KG and Paul. No Brainer.

 Howard
 Sabonis
 Durant
 Hield
 Thomas

With Bradley, Smart, Crowder, Kelly that teams nasty would shoot the lights, play defense rebound. 56 wins next year maybe more. Finals bound three years in a row.

If Dwight is what it takes to get Durant, i'll be happy regardless of his efficiency playing in green.
