I love Jimmy but that's too much for him.

It isn't too much though if it equals Durant and signing Horford. Resigning Sully or signing someone else

Isaiah
Butler
Durant
KO
Horford

Sully, Crowder, Smart, Turner, Amir, Mickey, Hunter, Young.  That's 13 players and a full roster.  PLus  picks the next couple years to add to that.

There are only so many roster spots in the nba.  It's about getting the right guys.

KO would basically take jerebko's spot and has been developing.  Crowder moves to the bench as well.  Smart and Turner are our best backup guards.  Amir becomes a backup. So does Sully.  Hunter and Mickey and young provide extra depth.

I feel like Butler is better than AB or Brown.  Durant is better than Chriss or Bender. Horford is the kicker.

All of this is obviously stipulating on Ainge knowing something about Durant we don't obviously.

That's a well put together team though.

It's actually a steal if we are "overpaying" for Butler to  bring Durant and Horford here.  I don't think we are. That's the going rate to get a player like that that is under contract with his current team.  Players and multiple picks.    People are in lala land and listen to the media too much and value.

I think you all undervalue AB big time.
Do you realize that you put AB in OKC or Cavs and they win.
Who in the nba can minimize the impact of the best PGs in the game?
AB is crucial to our team to win a title. And he has proven he's a serious threat in scoring now.

That's more than i would like to give up.

Why not include Crowder in the deal instead of AB (we need his defense - especially against Curry - and shooting), and play Butler at the 3 spot?
Imagine:
PG: IT
SG: AB
SF: Butler
PF: Kelly (maybe a FA?)
C: Amir Johnson (maybe a FA - Horford?)

Looks good if you ask me.

Funny how we could have picked Jimmy back in 2011 instead of JaJuan Johnson and avoided this situation ::)

I agree AB is good.  I'd still like to draft Brown for that reason but if we can put together a team of Butler, Durant, Horford, Isaiah that's impactful.  I'd love to keep AB. I'm not undervaluing him and never have.  I drafted him just like Ainge did and stood up for him for years.  Also drafted Smart and Sully and james young.  Wanted Adams over KO but I'm not perfect. KO was a smart pick by Ainge and I get it.

Obciously this Durant stuff is in the clouds right now and something missing there but these are the types of trades that work.

Also wrote a big long post why Durant was better than Oden while i was at the fleetcenter watching Pierce go off as people were chanting for Oden thinking that was rude and was watching Pierce play his heart out.   But that's beside the point.  It's all there.  AB and all of it.  I have posts saying all of what I'm sayinig.  But that's beside the point.

I'm very high on Brown. I don't believe this guy won't improve his shot %. With his work ethic and mentality and IQ, this kid is gold to me.

Durant may stay in OKC.  I don't know that.  Only Durant and Ainge know that. I feel like Durant should be loyal to his teammates in ways but I also feel like if he can come to a better situation it's a good situation for him vs prolonging the inevitable.

for those who can't see the article:
Butler for AB, Rozier, Jonas, #3 and #16

seems a bit steep.  maybe #23 for #16 instead.

I'd probably do that trade.  At least it gives Boston some real direction and moves it at least in contention with Toronto with no other moves.  Boston still has 23 and 31 to add some more "talent" along with cap space for a potential max contract player.  Plus, you keep Crowder who would be a great fit next to Butler.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

It is a rumor, they wanted Crowder before and now he is not part of the trade.   A journalist making a story out of nothing as I see it.  The only way this deal makes sense, is if KD is coming here if we land Butler and if that happens I think it more likely we trade Crowder than AB.  We still need a big.

Durant coming to Boston is not coming to a better situation. Best place for Durant is to stay with Westbrook one more year and hope the team adds another peice to get over that hump. Boston is not in a good situation right now. Its all smokes n mirrors.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.

I am hopeful to see AB's progress with the C's next year. Butler is a headache as a person. AB is class. I think we need to focus on getting a big like Noel and sign Batum We should be able to get to ECF with that next year and with our picks growing win it in 19.  Holford is old. I would rather give AJ two years.

I don't think that trade helps us as much as people think it will.

Hurts our chance of having double-max cap space. Butler isn't as dramatic an upgrade over Bradley as people think (Bradley might be a better shooter and apparently is a better defender according to the All-Defense rankings).  And the #3 pick, while looking grim, could reasonably end up someone better than Butler.

I completely agree here.  Also not a fan of a guy who can't take a fairly decent team into the playoffs in the East.

I think if Butler stays it's more because the  Bulls just don't want to trade him  and plan to keep him in the fold. Most of this stuff is media garbage anyways.

I don't know where is the best situation for Durant, but I doubt it's OKC.
Look at their cap space and they have Durant Wes and Ibaka to sign big time money.
With Kanter already on board, they have to cut Ibaka.
OKC will only be a downgrade from now on. Unless they decide to go into luxury taxes, but if they didn't do it with Harden, I doubt they'll start now.
If winning is not Durant's priority, then I agree, he should stay in OKC.
If he wants to win, he has to leave now, not next year. The excess cap space is now, it's his opportunity to be exigeant with certain players to play with. Next year might be different for him.
