The more I read the more I think the Cs will trade down

With Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders stating that Chriss and Brown are at the top of the Cs list I again find myself thinking a trade down may be inevitable. While trading for a start is plan A, and trading for Okafor may be plan B. Plan C to me would be a trade down like I mentioned in a post right after the lottery was determined.

The biggest observation I have is the total lack of continuity. Typically these two mocks form some sort of consensus and we are surprised on draft night but the differences really highlight what the Nuggets GM stated in a podcast that teams will really very in their top 10 assessments.

Denver is the team that really strikes me as the prime candidate. They like the Cs have picks to spare. They also have a GM who is comfortable with international prospects. I could see him moving up to get Bender and given their current roster Faried seems like a logical guy to move. Along with Bender Murray also seems like an interesting fit next to Mudiay. His elite shooting would pair nicely with Mudiays attacking style and he would be able to play some point next to Gary Harris. If a #3 for #7 and Faired trade happens the Nuggets could potentially role out a small starting 5 with Chandler and Gallinari at the 3/4 opening more post minutes for Jikic and Nurkic.

For the Cs if they make the trade and Denver takes Bender I could see the following lottery play out

#3 Nuggets Bender

#4 Suns Chriss

#5 T-Wolves Dunn

#6 Pelicans Murray

#7 Celtics Brown

It probably makes more sense to try to get Gallinari in the trade down with Denver. I really like Faried, but we need scoring and perimeter shooting from the swing position and Gallo provides that. We may need to give up #16, as well, but getting Brown/Chriss and Gallo would be a solid draft night from our two first slots. It also nails down 2/4 of Danny's plans A,B,C,D.

A) Draft Ingram/Simmons
B) Trade for a star (Gallo barely fits this criteria, I know)
C) Trade for Okafor
D) Make the pick if it's not Ingram/Simmons

If anyone will get value out of this pick, it's Danny - really excited to see what he's going to do.

I've said for a while I think the Cs could do a deal with Minnesota to get the #5 (after they deal the #3 pick), therefore essentially moving down.

I think that's what Danny wants to do (outside of using #3 to get a star).  The question is what other assets does he pick up in the process.

He sure as heck doesn't need additional draft picks at the moment.

#3 for #8 and Willie Cauley-Stein.  Dunn would be a great fit for Sacramento, and I think I read Joerger wants Cousins at the #5 (where he belongs).  We get the young rim protector we need, and probably find that one of Chriss or Brown is still available at #8.  Win-win for both teams.

In my greedier versions of this hypothesis, we also send off Young and Hunter (since Sac needs wings) and pick up their 2021 1st.  But I'm fine with just the first paragraph of this post.

If your thought is you can get the same player in value at #3 as you can at #8 than why would another team give up assets to move up? Sorry but you're not making sense to me. If you think you could have a change for the player you really want at #8 but you have #3 you just make the pick. Trading down means you really don't like anyone and trying to get out of the draft. Example is Rozier, Danny took him when nobody else had him going for a while but that doesn't matter. You take the player you have rated highest.

At the combine, the word put out was that the Celts had no interest in trading #3, but would deal any or all of the other picks.

We supposedly love Brown at the combine.

We supposedly are hot on Bender.  Austin & Danny take a magical mystery tour.

Then we are supposedly hot on Chriss (wuh?).

Now we are supposedly hot on Dunn (Who doesn't want to come here???).

We are going to trade #3 for Okafor.

We are going to trade something else for Noel.

We are going to trade #3 for Butler.

We are going to trade IT (for ?).

We are going to trade Marcus (for ?).

We are going to trade Avery/Jae/Rozier....

We are going to trade down.

We are going to trade up.

Stevens says any trade has to be for someone of significant impact.

And so on.  And so on.

The only thing I am sure of is:  NO ONE HAS A STINKING CLUE!!!

Just because Danny may be indifferent between who he can get at 3 vs 8 or thinks the guy(s) he likes most will be there at 8 doesn't mean other teams will. So IF this is the way he feels a trade down makes absolute sense. He would be maximizing value for the pick. Just picking the guy you like most does not maximize value. I'm not saying this is the case but your argument to always just pick the player you like most is flawed.

Would expect additional minor assets included by Cs but not a bad thought, only issue is the fact that he trade is to logical for the Kings....
