I'm convinced we should just work through the draft and wait out the warriors and cavs instead of getting thirtyish year olds

I'm not, but you raise an important issue.  (Incidentally I assume that you're not including Jimmy Butler in this, since he's 26.)

The Celtics are in the enviable position of having a young, growing playoff team that also has excellent draft assets.  But they're not rebuilding anymore; they have a core group of guys who are early in their careers, one that will get better even if you do nothing else, simply by improving their individual skills and by developing a team chemistry to maximize them.  More than any team in league history, the Celtics have always valued continuity; and I think that you're pointing to the value of that.

There's a chance in Boston to build a perennial contender, and I think that the daily proposals here to trade Crowder and others often do not take account of the continuity asset that's being built (his value is also underappreciated, which is not beside the point).

By the same token, as Red Auerbach once said, "You've gotta have the horses."  Garnett came over because Pierce and Allen were already on board.  I'll give you another one:  Heinsohn said that the early Celtics succeeded because of a mix of youngs and vets; there was a 'push/pull' - vets pulling, youngs pushing.  Or, in other words, leadership and experience meets energy and drive.

TP for the most intelligent post I've seen on this board in a LONG time.

There's a kind of morbid fascination among younger fans with the draft that completely obscures how champions are built, along with an assumption that the Celtics are on the same plane as every other mediocre franchise in the league.

Good thoughts in all cases. Post more.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I want KD , Bulter and Drummond

I'm a fan

I want titles

Not my money ......it costs loads of money to compete......not waiting like Warriors drafting 6000. Guys over 30 years to finally hit the right combo.

I want to win NOW ..... :)

I've never heard that Heinsohn quote before, great stuff. It describes the advanced team building theory in a succinct way. It's not like we would be at a loss for youth here if we made the proposed acquisitions.

The Jimmy Butler trade would most likely focus on Bradley and probably one of Rozier, Hunter, or James Young along with the picks. That would still leave us with some hungry young talent to place around the strong veteran core. Horford could be an underrated influence on Mickey and we'd still most likely come away with some promising rookies with the 23rd, 31st and 35th pick.

Malik Beasley?
Gary Payton III?
Dejounte Murray?
Malachi Richadson?

Good deal of late first, early second round talent to stop the bleeding left by a blockbuster deal.

No ones getting Jimmy Butler. He is untouchable. Same goes for Isaiah Thomas, he's not getting traded. There will be no fireworks this off season. They are going to draft Bender. Its not going to be a busy summer. Danny will have to over pay to keep the same roster as last year. And no we are not getting Durant. It will be the same team as last year but two more rookies. Bender is Danny's guy. That's who he has a hard on for and that's who he's gonna draft. Only free agents we sign are our own restricted FA. Sully is coming back and so is Turner. Only trades we see will be for our 2nd rounders and maybe the two later 1st rounders. Don't expect anything else to happen or you will be left disappointed.

Jeez dude, reading this post is depressing! I agree with a lot of it unfortunately but here are my differences. Not sure he will draft Bender, I have no idea who the pick will be right now. I don't think Sully is coming back and we will replace him with a FA (maybe Noah?).

But otherwise I think it will be hard to make moves with all the money coming into the NBA this year.

I'm just preparing you guys for the worse case scenario. We might not do anything but draft two prospects and re-sign a few restricted free agents. I personally don't see much happening this summer. The media is blowing this summer up like its gonna be tma better version of 2007. There are going to be a lot of disappointed fans this summer.

Absolutely not.  Keep the picks, play the (new) kids, and trade a guy like Crowder, etc., for Chicago's first next year, and others in similar deals.  Hit the reset button.

It depends entirely on the asking price. Is it worth giving up cost-controlled assets for the improvement Butler and Horford would offer? I can't envision any scenarios in which they both end up on our team without us overpaying.

Woj is it? Ohhh you can't be Woj because not even Woj knows the future. This is a forum, people here are discussing their passion and the majority are using educated guesses based on reports, you have to stop being such a debbie downer.

Not trying to be a Debby downer just here to put reality back into perspective. Don't get your hopes up and someone's gotta neutralise the fantasy's. It would be great if all that were to happen but my common sense tells me its not happening. Gotta bring these dreamers back down to earth before their hearts get broken. Besides, we will have a better team next year but its not gonna be NBA finals ready

I'd be very happy with that deal....I mean i'd prefer to trade bradley vs crowder.

But this board massively underrates Butler. The dude is a legit star and would be a very large upgrade over crowder/bradley + besides talent, being an all star has a pull for other stars which will help in this hypothetical when you make a run at KD next year.
