Obviously we won't be drafting  8 players with our 8 draft picks... best option if we cannot trade for a player, is to consolidate to trade up in this draft.

Teams that would want to trade down for additional picks would be any team that only has 1 pick in this year's draft and the pick is in the 1st round....

Minnesota (1 pick, 5th overall)
Charlotte (1 pick, 22nd overall)
San Antonio (1 pick, 29th overall)
GSW (1 pick, 30th overall)

Teams that might also want to trade down are teams with only 2 picks that are (a first round pick with an extremely late 2nd round pick)

Sacramento (2 picks, 8th and 59th overall)
Memphis (2 picks, 17th and 57th overall)

Of all the teams, obviously I would do everything i can to get Minnesota's or Sacramento's pick. Frankly, they can have all the 2016 picks except the 3rd pick. However, packaging the late picks for a middle-late 1st rounder wouldnt be a terrible idea either.

Raptors might want to trade down. The 8-14 range is full of uncertainty. Not sure they'd deal with us though.

Chicago is another. #14 for #16 and #35 could work

Trade-up is very hard in the NBA because the drafts are top-heavy and only 15 players per roster.  This is not the NFL where you have to fill a 53-man roster.

Another option is to trade picks this year for future picks.  The benefit would be to get a higher pick in a future year in exchange for a player this year that is coveted by the other team.  I expect to see some of this on draft night.

Yeah, Chicago is a prime target of mine for moving up purposes.  It's not a big drop, and the #35 pick looks to have value this year.

Potentially, it could be a double trade-up.  16 and 35 to move to 14, and then 14 and 23 to move to 9 or 8.

we can also throw some other second round picks to go up as well. I see us coming out with three players and 1 or 2 stashes and 2 picks used to moved up and 1 2nd pick moved for a pick next  year.

I'd do that, but does 14 and 23 get us into the top 10?

A lot of uncertainty means a lot of opportunities to fall in love.  Teams would be more likely to trade down if the players in their range are seen as a bunch of unappealing known quantities.  The best opportunity for a trade up is if a team is in love with Player X and only Player X and he gets snatched a slot or two ahead of their pick.

There are a lot of big men who could go in that range, so look for a team that either doesn't need a big or wouldn't like most of the ones projected to possibly go in that range.

Also, consider the possibility that the player that Ainge thinks is the best available at 12-14 is someone he thinks will stop be there at 16.

Wouldn't guarantee it of course.  Sort of depends who's available at 8 or 9.  But it's conceivable all the players the Kings might like would be gone (Dunn, Hield, Murray) and a player they don't need and that the C's might like (such as Poeltl), could be available.  Given the Kings are looking for a PG, and there should be some good options on the board at 14, such a trade could make sense.

A trade like that would really depend how the draft goes (if Dunn falls to 8 no way are the Kings trading, for example), but I think there are some possibilities.

True, teams do fall in love with a particular player. Kaminsky springs to mind... I think Chicago in particular are going to want quantity for next year. They're very thin up front now and there is noone behind Rose.
As for the Raptors it depends how the next few weeks play out. I've had them look at Denver with 15+19 to make a deal.

In general if Denver are looking to consolidate those two picks then we are going to find it hard to move up in this draft

I think that's fair.

My alternative was #3 (and necessary seconds) to Phoenix for #4 and #13. #13 and #16 to move up. The problem is that we would have to make that trade ahead of time, whereas your option would let us do it during the draft.

DET has the #18 pick, and a middling 2nd (#49). I wonder if they might be willing to slide down to #23.
