do the sixers really need either Simmons or Ingram. What is their area of most pressing need. They seem to already have their big man rotation set, so should they draft a guard?

Ingram at number 1 and trade Okafor to us for number 3. If drafting for need, that makes absolute perfect sense for them, especially if they'd get something like Rozier along with the number three pick for us. That'd essentially shore up their starting five:

PG: Rozier
SG: Dunn
SF: Ingram
PF: Saric
C: Embiid/Noel

I still think they'll ultimately have to trade Noel, too, if Embiid actually works out, which is still very much a question.

They need a player to build around. Somebody to create for himself and others.

Simmons.

Ingram. Assuming he's just as good of a prospect as Simmons than he fits better. You already have too much redundancy with okafor Noel and potentially embiid. You don't need more redundancy with Saric and Simmons.

Now if Simmons is the superior prospect you take him but if you feel Ingram and he are even than you take Ingram.

I think there are about 27 teams who need Ben Simmons.  Philly is one of them.

I'd go Simmons and trade Okafor to Lakers for Russell if possible. Then try Noel and two lower 1st for Smart and two higher seconds.

Lakers build with Clarkson, Ingram, Randle and Okafor.
76ers build with Russell, Smart, Simmons, and Embid.

That's a lopsided trade. Basically trading no. 3 pick in this draft for no. 3 and no.16 in last years. Dont like it at all for us.

For need? Ingram. Simmons is a terrible fit, as he'd have to play SF next to two non-shooting centers. If I were them, I'd take him anyway though. Then trade Okafor for Bender and Noel for Bledsoe.

Brett Brown will pick Ben Simmons. No doubt about it.

You don't draft based on best fit for the current roster when your current roster just went 10-72. You take the best player available and move from there. Simmons will be a 76er.

The Sixers would have to consider this if the top prospects were centers.

Now they will draft the one they think is the best prospect between Ingram and Simmons.

IMO if Hinkie were still around he would go for Simmons because he has the greatest upside. I do not know enough about Colangelo to make a guess.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Simmons seems to be currently the better prospect and Philly always drafts the best prospect. Since he is not a center, I don't see any way they draft anybody else.

They do have options with Okafor, though - would be great if we could deal #3 and Young (assuming Lakers take Ingram. If not, I definitely don't do this deal). I don't particularly think Young has much potential or value, but he would be given a chance to play on that Philly team with low expectations. Perhaps he could get his confidence back up.

Other than us, there are a number of options out there for an Okafor for guard (or high draft pick to select a guard) swap.
