Hi CB,

I know a lot of people have talked about trading the pick, but I don't think the deals being suggested are very realistic.  We aren't getting Cousins or Butler for the third pick and change.

What about Derrick Favors?  Still young (will be 25 next year) and under contract for two more years.  Utah has Rudy and Lyle in their frontcourt and could be interested in moving Favors.  I think the third pick, Amir, and maybe a future non-Brooklyn first could do it.  Utah could save some money by letting Amir go and focus on a Gobert/Lyles frontcourt.

For Boston a potential Favors and Mickey (if he makes that jump) front court could be very tempting.  We could also let Sully walk, albeit for nothing in return.

Thoughts?

Not exactly fireworks, but I think it is a realistic option that would definitely improve our team.

I think this would be a great move for us, not sure Utah does it.

Give Utah a reason to make that trade.  Favors is one of the better young big men in the league.  Letting Amir go means they only get the 3rd pick in exchange.

Utah is a small market team that could struggle to add big names in free agency (granted, winning overrides everything) and they might not be able to afford three big time contracts (Hayward, Favors, Gobert) not to mention they will probably want to hold on to other players (Exum, Hood).

They already have Lyles, who could replace Favors and is on a rookie contract.  They could add another cost controlled player on a rookie deal with the third pick (a guy like Hield would be great for them) and a future pick or one of our young guys.  By not picking up Amir's option they could save some money and try to retain the talent they already have.

I am trying (unsuccessfully) to find an article from this past season that talked about the Jazz and why moving one of their players would be a great move.  The main point in the article was that if they tried to resign Hayward, Gobert, and Favors when their contracts were up they would be using the majority of their cap space on those three guys.  Trading Favors while they have a solid backup plan in Lyles might be a good move for the team for both the short and long term.

Celtics would also give them another first (maybe Boston 2017) or a young player if they wanted that.  Wouldn't be just the third pick.

I wouldn't trade 2017 BOS pick because we have the right to swap it with BKN. BOS 2018, maybe.

I forgot about the pick swap.  Agree 100%, I wouldn't trade it.  My main point was a package of Amir (to match contracts and give the Jazz an option to save money, which could be focused on retaining players they already have) the third pick in this draft, and a future pick or some young guys that we have.

Well Utah has a solid young backcourt with Exum coming back.  Losing Favors means they might want a young big like Olynyk.

I think that would be worth it for the C's.  I like KO a lot, but keeping Mickey would help if we lost Olynyk.  Plenty of opportunities for bigs in the draft at 16 and 23.

#3, Amir, and KO for Favors.  I wouldn't complain.

I doubt Utah is going to do us any Favors.
