No you drafted for best player available, as you almost always should.  Unless you believe in Bender.

Wanting Murray and not wanting smart are not mutually exclusive events.

We can want Murray AND also want to keep Smart
If Smart were the next great player in the NBA are we having this conversation? Of course we aren't

You responded to his point by completely ignoring it?

This is really simple. If Smart were the next great player in the NBA....if he were the next Lillard...even if he were the next Oladipo, then we aren't having this conversation. If that's the case between him and Rozier we're looking really hard at Jaylen Brown and Bender.

But that's not the case at all so we're looking at great offensive players. We certainly aren't looking at defensive guys.

you must admit Smart is a bust (so far).

You can't possibly be looking at a team that has drafted both Smart and Rozier and want yet another guard to go with AB and all star IT and be telling me Smart was just such a great pick.

If the Celts keep this pick I want a guard....because Smart is a bust. Tony Allen lite is not what I signed up for with the 6th pick.

Here you go, eja.  Celtics draft whomever the kings want at 3, Kings draft Dunn at 8

Celtics trade rights to #3 pick player, Smart and Amir (and maybe a future 1st)

to SAC for...

#8 (Kris Dunn aka the next D-Wade) and DeMarcus Cousins

Then you convince another max FA to join the party

Thoughts?  Anyone?

No.

I'm looking at Murray because I see him as a good NBA player in the future. A good sized guard who could ideally play either position, can flat out score the ball, and can be a key part of this team.

I'm not looking at Brown or Bender because I don't see any reason to think that those guys will ever be helpful NBA players.

It's not about "oh we need offense so take Murray". Sure, it's an added benefit, and it comes at a good time for this team, but I am looking for the BPA. And in my opinion, Murray is the BPA after Ingram and Simmons.

I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I love Smart, but I think I'd do that trade, especially if a Hield or Brown would happen to slip to 8. We'd probably also have to include the 16th pick and probably others, though, which still might not be enough for them.

Or maybe such a person simply thinks one of those guards is clearly the BPA.

Took the words out of my mouth.

Smart in his second season is a better player than Butler was in his second season and Marcus is younger than Butler in his second season. I would pump the brakes on Smart being a bust. Let's see what he does in year 3 and 4 before he is labeled a bust.
Butler's offensive stats totally blew away Smart's in his 2nd year. Also Butler got better in his second year, but Smart got worse.

Marcus Smart 2nd year stats 9.1 points per game 4.2 rebounds 3.0 assist plus had some big moments in the playoffs including taking over the 4th quarter in game 4.
Butler stats second year 8.6 points 4.0 rebounds 1.4 assists is blowing Marcus Smart away???? You sure about that? Plus Smart was 2 years younger than Butler was his second year. And Smart is the much better defender in year 2 than Butler was. Let's see what Smart does in year 3 but in year two he was a better player than Butler.

I don't think you look that closely at how NBA teams draft.  They often draft BPA.  The Suns for example with Booker.  When they drafted Booker did that mean they didn't like Knight or Bledsoe?

I mean obviously after getting the third pick in the draft with the third best record in the Eastern conference there would be a "Smart is a bust" thread on Celticsblog  ::)

Here's something better: "The third pick set Celtics back 5 years!"

That's a little over the top. There was no cant miss franchise player in This years draft. Celts will still be able to trade the 3rd pick they just have to give up a little more than they would if it was the 1st pick.

I will probably push the anti-Smart thing until he stops sucking. I had to deal with many many years of the anti Rondo crowd. Turn about is fair play.
