He's too old for their rebuild and is on a reasonable deal money/years wise. He is more athletic than Sully and unlike Sully he won't be at the Golden Corale buffet line 24/7.

He fits in with our core as semi-young and I think he'd be a great fit here. I don't know if the only way to acquire him would be as part of a deal involving trading picks with Denver? Either way he's such a better alternative to Sully!

I agree but would he be part of the future? If not, I'm not personally interested.

I guess it depends on where we pick. If we take Bender then he buys us time for Bender to get ready. With Simmons it's a bit of a question mark though...

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Tough call - at ~$13M/yr for the next three years, he is on a decent contract and one we all thought Sully would get, but he isn't a star and doesn't particularly stretch the floor - which we need from our next PF.

Obviously he would slide right in a be a fixture with the rest of our tenacious core pieces, he just can't be considered the final piece to our puzzle.

His age - 26 - is very reasonable.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
No thanks. Doesn't improve us at all.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Faried and Sullinger, aside from their rebounding rates, could not be more different from one another as players. Sullinger is skilled on offense - decent midrange shooter, respectable from 3 (for a big man), very good passer - but lacks the physical makeup to finish inside at the pro level. Defensively, he uses his length and BBIQ to not be a complete liability. Faried is all effort and physical makeup on both ends of the floor.

None of this is to say we shouldn't look at Faried, but he's not a "better Sullinger" - he's a completely different brand of big man. Additionally, he would likely be a tricky fit in Stevens' system because of his lack of shooting/passing/general versatility, unless we get better players - namely, better shooters.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

By better you mean more athletic (by a lot). Otherwise they can both rebound but can't really shoot or offer rim protection.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Yeah - I meant a better fit for us than Sully in terms of age, contract etc. It is true he isn't a shooter which is important to CBS, so that may be a disqualifier? But he's so athletic and consistent, good rebounder, and can run the floor in the fast break whereas sully is just fat and useless and can't run to save his life.

This is exactly what I was going to post before I read your response. Sully and Faried are only comparable in the fact that they are both between 6 8 and 6 9 and play the same position.

Faried is a 110%, motor, energy, athletic freak.

Sully is overweight out of shape can bang the boards and make moves in the paint but shoots from the outside way too much and doesnt have the hustle and grit it takes to be effective.

I was a big proponent of trading for Faired at the deadline. If the Cs think playing for BS will improve his team and individual defense he could be a great fit for this team. He has the tools to be an excellent perimeter defender at PF and just needs to bring it together. He is very limited on offense but I believe a rotation can be built especially with KO around that can accommodate his skill set.

In terms of Faried is Sully they are in fact very different. Sully is almost 2" taller and has a much better developed skill set. Its sad really because a truly in shape Sully could be a special player. Faried is all energy and hustle with next to no refinement.

The absolute last thing the Celtics want is a PF who can't shoot nor defend his position.  There is zero chance that Faried is on their list as a player they wish to acquire.  According to the NBA's tracking data he rated out with the worst defensive FG% league wide this year among all players who defended at least 300 field goal attempts.  Out of 290 qualifying players he came in number 290 with a DFG% of 52.3%.  He holds no value on either end of the floor.  Denver should be stuck with him for the remainder of his contract or have to pay a tanking team to take on his anchor of a salary.

I like Faried. If we aren't signing Sully we are going to need to replace his reobunding. The energy Faried plays with really fits in with the personality of the team.

The issues with replacing Sully with Faried are that Faried can't even knock down mid range j's so he needs to be paired with another big who can shoot. Sully's midrange shooting allowed him to start with Amir, but Faried and Amir wouldn't work nearly as well. My other issue is that last year Sully was the only player with the size to defend traditional NBA 5's, Faried isn't big enough to do that.

DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

If we could trade Amir and a couple of 2nd rounders on Faried I'd probably do it.

I just want to have the personnel to put out an all dread-lock lineup.

So far we have Marcus Thornton and Crowder.

Olynyk's hair is long enough, if we have to go that route.  ;)

I think Olynyk would be a very good complement to Faried in the frontcourt. KO's got legit size, although not as strong as other centers out there, but I think on most nights, it would work on both sides of the ball.

Al Horford would be another really good frontcourt partner with Faried, I think.
