Ok so hear me out here-this is kind of a crazy idea and I know it's far fetched but if you guys have any idea how to get it to work and get it out there please let me know.

I'm sure many of you have a good idea how the NBA lottery is going to go. Lakers "luck" into a top 2 pick while we get bumped down once again to 4 or 5. It just feels so likely after years of lottery misery for us while the leagues darlings get a top selection. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I've just got a sinking feeling that this is how it's gonna go. No way the league lets the Lakers lose their pick.

So, here is what I propose. If we can somehow bring attention to this and raise awareness so that people know what is going on, that would put pressure on the league. Almost as if to say "go ahead, NBA, screw us in the lottery now that we've called you on it". They almost certainly wouldn't do it if this blew up and got national attention for fear of getting called on it, would they?

I know, I know. I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist, but after seeing us get shafted time and time again in the lottery it's hard not to be a little salty. So this is the best thing I can come up with as an attempt to prevent the inevitable. It's just so hard to see us getting a top 2 pick after all that we've gone through in the lottery.

I think you need to check your tinfoil.  It isn't working.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Doesn't the math say our highest percentage is the 5th pick?

The Lakers have had a decent chance of winning the lottery the last two years to no avail (4th best odds last year and 6th best odds the year before). So it's kind of silly to suggest a conspiracy if they win it in their third attempt with their best odds yet of actually getting the first pick.

But where's the fun in that?

The beauty of the lottery from a conspiracy perspective is you can construct a narrative around literally any result.  The fact that literally every top-3 combo has at most a 2% chance of happening just adds to it.

...except for us winning which will totally be a fair outcome, of course.

How many times have we lost out on a top 3 pick as a bottom 5 team (or owning a bottom 5's pick) anyway?  By my count we're 2 out of 4, getting 2nd in 86 (totally different system though), #3 in 97, and missing on the top 3 in 07 and 14.  That seems like a pretty reasonable set of results, not as good as we'd hoped but a long way from "getting screwed over and over again".

The thing with conspiracy lovers is that they can come up with a narrative for every outcome.

Dan Feldman writes an annual rundown of why the lottery is 100% fixed.  Here is last year's.

The exception was 2012, when he said there was a 99.3% of the lottery being fixed because there was no way David Stern was fixing the lottery to give the top pick to the Bucks.

Hilarious piece. Genius. I love how he does it for each team so that the next year he can say he predicted it.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Winning the lottery is one thing, drafting a player by the hands of a GM is another.

And I hope Danny Ainge does not draft the likes of James Young/Fab Melo/Gabe Pruitt (aka busts) with that Brooklyn pick.  :-X
