LA blogs have been wishing and hoping for this all year.  Apparently he is a CA native and rumor is he wanted to be a Laker .

They will sign two or three stars with all their cap space.

It really sucks--but the Lakers have lots of options for a quick turnaround now...Let's just hope Jim Buss makes the wrong decisions...he usually does.

Derozan may go there because he is from there, and they might possibly trade for someone else using one of their prospects and their pick, though I think we have the advantage in any trade talks for stars given our assets. However, they're not getting two other max stars next year, too.

You have to have a strong supporting cast around your main guys. If not, you end up with several excellent max-level players and a bunch of scrubs. Look no further than the LA Clippers situation to see how that works out. They can't get anywhere in the playoffs because they have no supporting cast after paying three max-level contracts that are questionable fits anyways. So, no, they're not getting Durant, Westbrook, Derozan, and Cousins on the same team along with Randle, unless they plan on playing with a bunch of D-Leaguers off of the bench or those guys take some major pay-cuts, which isn't happening.

I think it would be great to see DeRozan join the Lakers. A good but not great player. Make the Lakers more relevant. Give them someone exciting. A young-ish star to go along with their young prospects. A good base to move forward with.

I don't think Toronto should panic if they lose DeRozan. Like I said above, a good but not great player. DeRozan is replaceable. Most likely in a different way. More shooting or more defense. Less individual shot-creation. Toronto can move forward without him. This summer or next. They should continue on the path they are on.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I don't understand the sign and trade conversation here - Derozan can get the same max from LAL that he can in a s&t with the Clippers (no 5th year when S&Ting a player). I suppose he may like the 'situation' better with the Clips, but if he grew up a Laker fan, there is no way he is a Clips fan - especially when he was kid (they sucked!).

Still makes a ton of sense to re-up with Toronto where he can get more money. Playing for the Lakers at this point seems like a fruitless exercise as it would just add another iso guard/wing to the mix.

Free agent season.

Everyone is either going to the Lakers or the Knicks.
And the Celtics get a lot of canceled visits.

This is a joke, right? The Lakers struck out on all of the key free agents last offseason, and it's well documented how awful their pitch to Lamarcus Aldridge was. Greg Monroe signed with ****g Milwaukee, for goodness sake. That should tell you something. This meme about free agents just wanting glitz and glamor and good weather has got to die.

Derozan wanting to move to LA to be closer to home makes perfect sense. But free agents care a lot about the quality of the organization, the head coach, the vision, and -- above all -- the chance to win basketball games.

Yeah, that's just me positing that he might prefer the Clippers over the barren Lakers since they're both in LA. I have no idea if Doc would even want him, but it does make some sense since they've long needed a more reliable wing starter.

Of course.  They'll get FAs and they'll get the 1 or 2 pick in the draft.

Derozen leaving would leave an interesting situation for the raptors. They are committed to two prime players in Lowry and Carroll and are in a playoff battle this season, to me this eliminates the chance they blow it up. His departed would likely put them as the floor for buddy Hield in the draft. As for FA they will be forced into an over pay to a young player like Fournier or maybe a short term gamble with a guy like E Gordon. The other possibily is they look to upgrade there scoring at PF maybe sign (R Anderson?) then start Ross and add vet bench depth.
