Not Sure if there will be as much fireworks as we thought

Our best chance of getting better is to just draft very wisely. FA and trades are a two way street we have no control over. Every year there is a player we passed up in the draft who has gone on to become, or is on his way to becoming, a really good player.   No one is right all the time, but really good scouting and research on a player, particularly his personality type, to determine how hard he is likely to commit to greatness, is critical.

People will be disappointed, because Danny doesn't commit long term just to please the fan
He will try to get Durant, Griffin, Butler, Love and will call for availability of any other top 15 player in nba. Then he will draft wisely the BPA and if necessary run the show again with almost the same roster.
Next year free agency with almost 3 max contracts as cap space is very tempting too 
Patience, we have a fun team to watch, no need throw the farm unnecessary. 2 short term signing (SF and Center) and we are good to go for another 50 wins year with happy fans.

With that said... Is it such a disaster if the Celtics make only slight improvements (becoming a 50+ win team) while continuing to develop its young players (including a high lottery pick), while maintaining the flexibility to do a blockbuster deal down the line?

Honestly I wouldn't be mad with this at all. That pick alone could be helpful for us next season. If we get just a few more upgrades (scoring off the bench, cheap rim protection) we could have a great season next year.
