I think one of the Philly bigs is worst case scenario right now. I think there's always going to be a potential deal there. So I expect at least one semi-significant trade this offseason.

Tank...Seriously, the 2017 draft is nasty.

I think an okafor trade will be contingent on Dunn being available.

If things go worst case and the Cs end up with the 5th or 6th pick and no one to trade it for I think one option is the Rudy Gay trade I recently posted.

Offer up #16 and #31 for Gay or if the Kings pick is after the Cs say #8 or #9 trade #6 and #23 to the Kings for #8 and Gay.

In the event of a trade down I would look for a home run prospect Chriss is a boom or bust type guy who may be worth the pick. In that situation I would then look to go for a center at #16 Zizic, Zubac, or Stone. I would even consider Onuaku who I think will be a draft riser. If Chriss isn't available in a trade down or at #6 I would probably go with Poeltl and then follow up with T Prince. After that the rest of the draft needs to be BPA and draft and stash.

As I replied in that thread, this trade doesn't work because on draft night, it can't have all gone wrong.  Free agency won't have started yet, so there's no way to know you've missed out on everyone.  Unless you just want to take whoever Sacramento picks and thinks they'll do the same -- which is not how these things work.

I can't see durant coming to Boston if DA can't trade the nets picks for an upgraded stater to make the roster more appealing.

What if all of these happens:

KD is not coming
Bulter not interested in playing in Boston
The nets pick is not top 3
Barnes, Batum, Holford, DeRozan all stay put
We miss Whiteside, Howard(don't want these two anyway)

What would Danny do? try to get a Amir Johnson type contract to help us a bit? would that be considered a failure?

Guys, there is like a less then 1% KD comes to Boston, can we just stop talking about it entirely for now.  It's not even remotely on the table in my opinion.

Butler is only slightly more likely to come here then Durant.  This one I will still consider, however.

Top 3 pick I'm banking on completely and if we fall out of top 3 then and only then will start to be upset.

Either way there is a pretty simple answer to the OP's question:  Retain flexibility is the only thing we should consider if we can't put a REAL contender together.

That does seem like a more likely thing to occur. I'm still not sold on okafor being that important/influential for us, but I could also definitely see it working.

Just speculating, randomly: What if Danny is planning to get okafor as a lure to Durant? I don't know if that'd be great tbh. Okafor might have a bad rep around the league after his incidents. Would Durant want to play with a young kid who's also a bit of a crazy head?
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Stevens is not a tanker.

He'd take Phillys squad and win 30 plus games

If celtics tank ....it won't be with Stevens coaching

I don't think Okafor would be any type of draw for Durant. He honestly won't change much right now, other than giving us a more consistent scoring presence down low. I honestly prefer Noel out of the two, anyways. At least we'd have a ridiculous defense with a legitimate rim protector in addition to our outstanding perimeter defense.

No treadmill moves. Accept losses if it develops guys. We're not beating golden state any year soon. Play the long game. I'd trust Danny if he gave up whatever for Cousins if it happens though.

Simple: put the best team out there. Compete. Make trades that arise during the year if worthwhile. Don't the Cs have the right to swap picks with Brooklyn in 2017?

In other words, worst case scenario is we have another year just like this one. Rooting for a team of youngsters/cast offs and rooting against Brooklyn.

I'm fine with that.

1. Draft one of the remaining members of this group: Ingram, Simmons, Bender, Hield, Brown, Dunn, Murray.
2. Try to consolidate the other picks into a late lottery selection, future pick, or veteran/prospect.
3. Sign wing depth: Bazemore, Crabbe, Lee.
4. Try to acquire a defensive-minded big, like Biyombo.
5. Retain JJ and Amir.
6. Guage trade values of prospects throughout the league, and be willing to move future picks to acquire talent.
