But I can see why the players wouldn't expect it if they don't play for the Raps.

Except:

1.  It's undoubtedly announced.  They don't just play it out of nowhere; and

2.  Wade has been in the NBA for 13 seasons.  He's played the Raptors dozens of times.

First, I am pretty sure they announced it before that little girl started singing. It's not like hes a rookie and doesn't know the protocol of NBA games.

Would you as an Americans be offended if some international player would warm up during your national anthem? Doesn't matter if he's not from US, they are making their bread in US and if you ask me they should respect it. Imagine if that was some muslim player or some Russian player instead of Wade during US national anthem? The media would be all over that ****...

"Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was famously suspended one game in 1996 for failing to "stand and line up in a dignified posture" during the national anthem"

Classless.  It's expected from D. Wade.  Disrespectful to Canada and to the young girl singing the anthem.

But it doesn't seem like Toronto's players care much either.  They're not formed in an organized manner and are moving around.  I know they've sat through the anthems a million times, but they should show more respect than that.

Looks like he spoke out!

I still think he's a thug. Broke Rondo's arm, broke Kobe's nose, kicked Ramon Sessions' groin, kneed Paul George in the head and all the other dirty tactics he's come up with. My views of him will never change. Disrespect and a dirty player.

Too bad the NBA won't punish their own star players.

Abdul-Rauf got suspended for stretching during the National anthem in 1996.  It arguably killed his career.  Shooting jumpers is way more obvious than stretching, and Wade needs to be called out by the NBA, or Abdul-Rauf needs a formal apology.

I hate when a persons response is something along the lines of "if people know me, they know I'm not disrespectful" or "they know I'm not ....." It's such a cop out.  Could you imagine if the court system was like this? "Your honor, anyone who knows me knows I'm not a killer".  Dude, your actions are louder than your words, so your act shows your disrespect therefore you can't make the claim.

I was about to write a post in his defense, but it looks like he already spoke out and nailed himself. The excuse he gave should not be accepted. The reverence for the National Anthem is exactly for the reasons he chose not to give reverence. You stop whatever you are doing short of a medical emergency and allow those few minutes of respect. When I saw the video I honestly though it was a doctored video because there was so much movement by others while he was shooting, but he put that idea to rest by coming out to admit that he consciously kept shooting through the anthem because his shot going down was more important than showing respect for the anthem. Totally uncivilized.

Wade may not think he's a disrespectful sort, but perhaps he's just totally ignorant. He's probably unaware Canada sent many troops to Afghanistan for a very long time because of their NATO commitment, even thought they didn't really want to, and that means a lot more to me than D Wade having to hit his lost shot because he's missing.

He says he's not disrespectful. But I don't respect him.

I think a 1-3 game ban would be fine here but I think it should be served at the start of next season and not the playoffs.

It would be funny if wade was denied entry to Canada for game 5

Pretty obnoxious. I would expect more from a seasoned veteran.

In his comments he talked about himself in third person. That was a big mistake, only Kanye can do that. I miss the old Dwyane Wade, I hate the new Dwyane Wade, The always rude Dwyane Wade.

So true, this is the hypocrisy we call life  ;D

Seriously though if you replace Wade with a muslim for example you can bet your arse Trump would have a banner about it the next morning... Still holding out for the day the world changes..  :blank:
