I wonder if we could get Pau Gasol to agree to opt in and be included in a trade to Boston . Why would chicago want to keep him anyway if he plans to opt out , might as well get something in return

Something like

Bos sends : Smart,AB, KO Brk pick, Dallas pick , Future c's pick

Chi sends :  Gasol and Butler

IT
Butler
Crowder
Amir
Pau Gasol

I think we would still have room to offer a max , and get whatever vet min we could attract and whatever draft picks left .

Plus Gasol would come off the books after 1 season , leaving us room to add another big piece next year .

If I'm Boston I might respond with "That's interesting. What else do I get?"

See how they feel about Portis.

What does the offer look like without Gasol included? Is Boston really giving up more to take back Gasol?

Without Gasol I would do AB and a top2 to pick, or Smart and 5 or lower .

Gasol = KO, Dallas , future pick

Gasol avg 16/11 last year , he would be great with IT getting into the paint . He still has 2-3 years left at this level of play IMO .

Plus having a max offer still to go after Durant  I think a core of IT,Butler,Crowder, Amir, Jerebko, Gasol could attract Durant.

Bulls team source about the asking price for Butler: "'Cheap.  Like dirt cheap.  You could probably take your 3 least favorite players and we'll take them as long as the salaries match.  We're just ready to be done with the whole thing to be honest"

I mean, what are they supposed to say?  Of course they want the stars and moon, until they don't.

I didn't realize Gasol's option was for so little ($7.8 mil). I can't see him opting in: he can make more on the FA market, plus choose where goes.

This
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Well if he wants to come here couldn't we do it on draft night , before the free agency starts . That way he can opt out and then resign for a 2-3 years deal around 10-12 mil. Still only 35 and has a game that ages well.

Quote
A league source tells CSNNE.com that the Bulls, while still open to listening to offers for Butler, are telling teams that are inquiring about his availability that their plan for now is to keep him in the fold. And while there was some thought that a top-3 pick coupled with a few decent players might be enough to entice the Bulls to pull the trigger on a deal to trade Butler, CSNNE.com has been told such an offer would have to include at least one "legitimate, NBA starter" for the Bulls to even possibly consider trading him. "And that might be a stretch," the source indicated.

Sounds like it would take one of AB/Crowder , with Smart and the brk pick

do you do it ?

No. Absolutely not.

If that's the case, I almost hope that we don't get a top-2 pick and just trade the third pick or lower for him. At least that way you don't have to choose between Butler and Ingram/Simmons, which isn't all that clear.

Of course, having the highest pick possible also gives us the most options and flexibility. I'm just afraid that if we luck out and get the number one pick we won't trade it for anything, even a great deal for a Cousins or George type.

That's nice, but our offer will remain the same.

And it should, considering we'll be on every team's short list to deal with.

Ingredients:
Choose one of:  AB, Crowder, Smart
Choose one of:  BKL 16' or BKL 18'
Add salary or youth to your liking:  Olynyk, Amir, Rozier, 2nd rounders

In our quest for two impact players, my guess is that one will come from the above deal & the other through free agency.

Adding salary is not a 'to your liking' proposition.  It has to be done.  And it has to be a lot for Butler.

Why ? we have cap space for 2 max free agents , we can absorb his contract into some of our cap space , like if we offered AB,KO,and brk pick we would only be taking away around 10 mil from the cap space we had .

If we got the second pick and Simmons was gone, I'd do Bradley + 2nd/Ingram + Dallas for him.  I'd give up Bradley because he just became redundant and I'd give up Dallas because we don't have the space for that pick, anyways.  Ingram is a lot to give up, but it should be fine.

What is troubling though is that nobody on our team could still shoot.  We need shooters so bad

Saying Bradley becomes redundant, then saying the team needs shooters doesn't make sense.  Replacing Bradley with Butler creates the same spacing issues we saw in the playoffs.  Bringing in Al Horford and starting Jerebko next to him would compensate for having Butler and Crowder on the floor together.

I see Crowder and Butler as ultimately redundant

If you see them as redundant, then why would you trade one plus a top 3 pick plus other picks and players for the other?

I maintain my position:  I would rather sign Horford with our cap space, keep our top 3 pick, and roll with the team we already have, vs. trading for Butler.

I am pretty sure if we do that we cannot sign another max player, unless you do not resign Jerebko and Johnson... and then we don't have anyone on the roster to play the 4 or 5.
