This is why he doesn't get calls when he actually gets fouled.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Pretty rough, and he doesn't get as many calls as he should, but taking 48 charges (2nd in the NBA) is still something.

The more we see of Smart, the more the Tony Allen comps seem entirely justified.

I apologize if others have made this comparison in the past and I just haven't seen it, but does Marcus remind anyone else of Tony Allen? Allen was even more athletic, but other than that, they have/had very similar games - neither one has a consistent outside shot, but they'll hit a big one every now and then, they both make their fair share of boneheaded plays, they're both outstanding defenders that can guard multiple positions, they're both unbelievably competitive and play extremely hard, and they're both tough as nails. Not to mention the obvious similarity in where they played in college.

I think Smart is a better playmaker and Allen a better finisher.

Good defense, terrible offense.  That's what he is pretty much.  How many times did he get inside, jump in the air and throw a prayer of a pass out?  Those looked downright awful.

Maybe but Tony is not much of a finisher and Marcus is only occasionally a play maker.

They both are spectacularly good defensive players and nearly brainless wannabe heroes on offense.

I only saw about 1 or 2 of those, most of the time were intentional drive and kicks.

He's had a couple of bad turnover but you cant fault his game when he shot 50% and got double figures.

I saw four or five of those.  Just wild wild attempts.

I wonder what his shooting starts are late in games. For all his shooting struggles, he really seems to hit big shots when it matters. It's to the point where I cringe at a Marcus 3 in the 1st that I assume will go in in the 4th.
