I can't wrap my head around this

How is a coach also the president , while there is another guy doing the GM duties??


If the GM wants to fire Thibs, can Thibs then fire him 1st to prevent such a move??


If Thib does not like the player the GM is thinking about obtaining or drafting, can he put on his presidents hat and override the decision?

First off, you need to have a good working relationship to make this work. In San Antonio, Pop is coach and president while Buford is GM, and I'd say that is working out pretty well. The wolves new GM will be Scott Layden, the Spurs assistant GM. Thibs will have more control than him, but they will both work together on draft and trades and free agents. The only way Thibs will get fired is if it comes from Glen Taylor, the owner. Layden won't be able to fire Thibs, but Thibs could theoretically fire Layden, but would probably need Taylor's blessing. Basically, the power in the Wolves organization will go Taylor - Thibs - Layden, but since Taylor doesn't know squat about basketball, Thibs will have final say on roster decisions.

You could possibly compare it to Zarren for the Celtics.  He handles a lot of the cap math and that aspect of GM duties (as well as advanced statistics and other aspects).

Thibs is a drill sergeant. You need a kg, Noah etc to follow to the tee  for example

 Having KG to help the youngn's transition into Thibs' style of coaching will be perfect. I'm so happy he decided to not retire and play next season.

Great hire by the Wolves.  I wouldn't be stunned to see them in the playoffs next year.  If you look at the progression of guys like LeBron and Durant, it usually takes them 2-3 seasons before they stop being a below .500 lotto team, but once they make that leap it's pretty massive. 

Cavs first 3 years of LeBron's career went from 32 wins, 42 wins to 50 wins.   Year 4 they made the Finals.

Durant:  20 wins, 23 wins, 50 wins.   Made the Western Conference Finals in year 4.  Made the Finals in year 5.

Wiggins won 16 games in year 1.  29 Wins in Year 2.   He's heading into Year 3.  This will be Towns' 2nd year and that kid looks like a top 10 player already.

Check their stats after the allstar break:

Wiggins:  20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.3 steals, .484/.413/.797
Towns:  20.8 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.4 blocks, 1 steal .541/.300/.745

Note that Towns actually shot better percentages for the whole year (34% from three and 81% from the line)

They went 12-16 after the break.   They have 5th best odds in this draft.  Wiggins is only 21 years old.  Towns is 20 years old.  Their coaching was horrible.   I think it's very possible they push over .500 next season with improvements to the kids and a fantastic coach at the helm. 

What if they land the #1 pick?  They have tons of tradeable players regardless to make improvements with.  The three teams you need to keep an eye on this Summer are Philly, Boston and the Wolves.  Really interested to see what those teams do in the offseason.

Wolves can be scary long-term.
