Time for Danny to steal his shirt with a blockbuster trade. Bet Thibs would be willing to pay high price for Smart, Crowder and/or Avery Bradley. Relationships mean a lot when trades go down. Ask McHale.
Smart for Lavine straight up? Thibs gets another defender, we get another guy who can score.
Wolves need more shooting, not less.
That can be addressed with their pick this year. Could very well end up with Hield if things go right for them
Smart looks like a Thibs type of player, but is Lavine a Stevens type? He's a ball stopper who takes a lot of ill advised shots.
Eh. Jordan Crawford had a similar reputation before playing for Brad. I just think Lavine would be a good fit due to his athleticism and ability to get in the paint better. Maybe someone who has watched more wolves ball can help me out, but he seems somewhat decent without the ball too, right? Like, catch and shoot kinda stuff? Idk, I just watch highlights when I can so I could be wrong.
Edit: and I just saw he shot >34% from three the past 2 seasons
Lavine is much better off the ball than on. He is an elite catch-and-shoot shooter. (I believe he was over 40% on catch-and-shoot 3s this year). Although he improved slightly as PG due to Sam Mitchell force feeding him minutes, the TWolves started to do well when they started Lavine at the 2 alongside Rubio.
His problem is that he can get in the paint, but he too often avoids contact. Watch his summer league tapes from last year as an example. He only goes up for dunks when he knows he'll flush it; when there's a guy in the way, Lavine tries to do a fancy layup or floater. If Lavine gets a Westbrook mean streak and tries to physically push himself to the limit, trying to dunk over everyone and everything, I think he'll take off. If not, he'll be a solid shooter/combo guard in spot minutes.
He's an awful defender all around.
Smooth stroke, work-in-progress with the ball in his hands, elite athleticism, no defensive stance, and no defensive awareness is the book on Lavine right now.
(I follow the TWolves as my "second team." I don't see as many of their games as I do the Celtics, but I have a pretty good grasp of what they're doing and how they're developing.)
