Anyone else think he's too reckless right now.  He seems completely out of control and puts himself in terrible position when handling the ball.  Interesting thought, could he be dealt in a package for another player?  Just a different way of looking at the roster....

He is a 6th man on a contender , that's where he belongs and role he is best suited for .

Two games and you forgot how he played all year?

He has no help again.  He's trying to do whatever he can when facing basically all he defensive attention from the second best defense in the NBA.  It's not his fault.

He's driving to the hoop the way he always does, but the Hawks are just doing a great job of collapsing on him. IT isn't quit a good enough passer to find the open guy every time, and when he does, guys aren't making shots.

good points. watch the hawk defense. they basically dare the celtics to shoot from outside. they know our best shooters are injured. that means they pack the middle and make it very hard for IT to drive to the basket.

they also focus on him when he has the ball. they pressure him and take it for granted that the rest of the team is not an offensive threat.

so far, i tip my hat to atlanta's defensive plan. it is working.

Calling IT a 6th man on a contender is just extremely lazy analysis. You dont send all-stars to the bench cause they have some limitations.

Need KO to stretch the floor.need AB to stretch the floor

Crowder plus Turner plus amir plus sully plus smart = dare to shoot

It not a natural shooter and needs to get to the line, feel the basket going in before his shooting is dependable

TP.
You can't blame Isaiah, because he is getting no help what so ever. Guys aren't knocking down their shots, which makes it twice as hard for Isaiah. We can't really expect him to drop 30+ points every night.

It'll be unfair, but if this continues I think the hot take will be "Thomas can't lead a playoff team."

IT is missing layups and jump shots he normally makes.  I would say it is an aberration but last year it was the same in the playoffs.  He struggles to score with ramped up physical D and less fouls being called.  He is not a lead scorer on a contender and is better suited to a 6th man role.  That said, he is not getting much help.

Not easy to lead a team when your second and third shooting options are Smart and Crowder. These guys are so bad right now that there are times in the second half they are playing hot potato with the ball. IT will pass it and they will just give it right back to him. The defense doesn't even need to shift because the ball comes right back to IT.

I think he is in a funk, yes. But I also think he has a wrist injury.. my guess would probably be from the Bucks game when he took a hard fall off of Monroe (there were also a few moments in games after).
The only problem is, he is still our #1 scoring option, so he'll have to shoot his way through this until he is back to normal.
I do think it's getting in his head though, also getting rejected constantly trying to drive to the hoop is probably getting to him a bit, which is likely causing him to miss a lot of these layups he usually hits.

Atlanta is definitely guarding us that way.  Dare anyone else to make shots.  This sums it up:

As much as I have loved these Stevens teams, I have always had that nagging worry because the whole system is kind of based on a lie: that you can't leave our well spaced players unguarded.  This was a worse problem last year even, but this year AB and Olynyk (Crowder to a lesser extent) stepped up as shooters.   Of course, right now we are missing those two shooters and it really shows.

I am impressed with Atlanta.  They are playing great basketball.  Millsap and Horford are playing amazing defense.  They are deep.  They can shoot.  They look maybe ready to actually challenge Cleveland.  We will have to see.

Anyways, it's disappointing.  I think a lot of articles summed things up for me when they said this was a deep and balanced team, but losing a piece or two can ruin things regardless.  Especially your two legit shooters.  Zach Lowe also had a good piece about how the Hawks defense is basically designed to overload ball side and give up the three point line on the weak side to any shooters there.  That's how you hurt Atlanta but the C's just absolutely can't shoot off ball right now.

If IT had room to work he would be playing well.  I just think he had a great year.  And I say that as someone who has always doubted him but in the mid point of this year he just started playing such smart basketball.  He is getting put in a very unfortunate situation for him in his Celtic playoff games so far.  Knowing how IT takes slights, I hope he just uses it as motivation for the future.

OMG Snake.

Hard to pick up during the game that Smart is getting the Rondo treatment but that Twitter picture of Smart open and no one caring to close out. Wow

Yes. That's part of what will make it unfair.
