What a crazy thought. If we did land Simmons, and he is the star he's toughted to be, he could play for the Celtics for 15 years and earn 300 to 500 million dollars playing for the best Basketball franchise in the world.

What a Luxury when building a team. And how we are set up with two more Nets picks if he hit on both those picks and signed a big free agent this year or next, Big Ben and Coach Stevens could be playing for rings for over a decade.

 Next Year.

Amir
Simmons
Durant
Bradley
Thomas

With Crowder, Smart, Kelly, Turner off the bench, it would be must see TV every night.

I'd like to have a legit Center. That's the easiest way to improve this team drastically. Someone who is a legit 2-way threat and can score at will in the post and hit ft's.

We can only hope after he is picked, he can become more mature real quick.   He really struggled/didn't care about academics last season.  Had some friction with LSU coach. Got benched

These kind of things don't work well with CBS.  Even if you have next level skills if you don't have  "character", " maturity" you may never or rarely see min to play

I think the Celts rather take Ingram.

A post threat isnt required anymore to win. Just need to have good bangers for when you play big teams and some sort of shot protection. Prime Chandler wouldve solved that. What we really need right now is a small ball 4 and more shooters.

If the Celtics get him or Ingram I don't think they move the pick. Unless of course Pacers offer George or Bulls offer Butler. Maybe Cousins.

Second this opinion .   Ingram all the way.

i see the appeal in simmons
but there is potential for him to become like beasley
have great stats and athleticism in college
but then get to the pros and have to deal with maturity and motor issues

ingram is more safer bet
plus he's a year younger and will be better scorer

anyway i would want any of them on our team

So basically you want Cousins or Towns. I can't think of many others that fit this description, unless we have a different understanding of "scoring at will in the post."

I would be ecstatic if we got either Simmons or Ingram.  I think Ingram would be better for the next two years' teams, but Simmons could pass him by the time their rookie contracts are over.  Our current team needs both shooters and players who can penetrate the defense.  Ingram's shooting should translate a little more quickly than Simmons' penetration ability.  Ingram also has better defensive technique, but Simmons has the length and strength to be incredibly disruptive on that end.

I know people are down on Simmons' shooting, but look how effective Demar DeRozan is, despite being someone who only shoots above average at the rim.  Simmons only needs to become a mediocre jump shooter to be a star NBA player.  Imagine DeRozan being four inches taller and a better passer -- wow!

I asked on another thread,, "if we draft Ingram do we still sign Durant and keep Crowder? "

Anyway if we don't get one of the top 2 guys we need to find the best big man in the draft. I think Sullinger gets overpaid and is gone. Amir is a big health gamble now and will be worse next year. This leaves awfully thin. My choice is to sign Horford and draft a big but who knows.

That's why I'd really like us to be in a position to draft Simmons or Poeltl (or even Murray/Hield for that matter). Crowder is to good to put on the bench.

If the option to draft Durant becomes even a remote possibility, you go all-in and figure out the rest later.

Durant and Simmons/Ingram are not mutually exclusive. I agree that we do need to solidify what we are doing up front. While Sully and Amir have been very good, it has felt more like a bridge year in regards to our big man rotation.

On building around Simmons I really want Lab in this draft to pair with him long term. Also think team would need more three point shooting from the the bench. The starters IT, AB, KO and Jae seem to be effective enough to play with him but guys off the bench haven't shown any consistent shooting. Simmons most important role would be as a distributor like Green is for Warriors. And to take more of a with the ball role when IT is on the bench. Really feel Simmons is Turner and Sully rolled into one player so he can be a great pillar for the team offense.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Ben Simmons is good, but I agree with Bill Simmons when he said that Ben may not have that extra competitive juice.

He's super talented, but he may also be one of those guys who doesn't have the mental fortitude to be the guy despit his skills and physical traits says he could.

I have a crazy notion for you.

Say Philadelphia gets the 3rd pick, and we get the first. Would you be willing to trade the #1 overall for Joel Embiid and the 3rd? I understand the injury concerns, but he has the potential to be the Center you are looking for.
