Looks like it is all but official, and there will soon be ad patches on NBA jerseys. I don't love the idea but I also don't feel strongly opposed to it. However, this thread is not intended as a forum to argue the pros (*crickets*...puts more money into owners' pockets??) and cons (It's destroying the purity of my precious professional sports league!!!).

With that said, what companies/logos would you like to see on different NBA jerseys? Remember this is inevitable so answering, "NO ADS," and presenting your case on why you don't want this to happen isn't the point of this thread. Resistance is futile and, like Kent Brockman, we should welcome our new insect overlords.

To start, I think Guinness would be a good sponsor for the Celtics. A black and gold patch with the Guinness harp would be unobtrusive and consistent with the Irish theme. I also wouldn't mind Sprite because of the color and relationship with basketball (history of bball ad campaigns), and Lucky Charms would be silly but fun.

I immediately thought of Guinness too. But, would that fly with the NBA? Aren't they already pimping Bacardi as the official drink?

Aer Lingus seems another obvious choice.

Bushmills or Jameson would be appropriate.

Not sure about the logistics related to established NBA sponsors. Aer Lingus would be a good fit.

A few more:

Lakers- Land O'Lakes Butter
Bulls- Red Bull
Hornets- Honey Nut Cheerios
Bucks- John Deere
Kings- Crown Royal
Pistons- GM

Good ones. Some others:

Heat: Sriracha (hot sauce)
Nuggets: Kellogg's Corn Pops
Magic and Wizards: Wizards of the Coast (subsidiary of Hasbro, and makers of Dungeons & Dragons)
Mavericks: Hasbro's My Little Pony
76ers: Colonial Penn Life Insurance (based in Philly)
Rockets: Nestle's Rocket Pops
Suns: Coppertone

Haha I like those.

Hawks- Coca-Cola
Pacers- DHL (recent sponsor winner of Indy 500)
Grizzlies- Charmin
Trail Blazers- Nike
Pelicans- Popeyes

Cool find. I have a feeling that in reality this whole patch business won't be as well thought out and integrative haha

Wyc's take update:

Wyc on Felger and Mazz made a couple statements about sponsors on jerseys. He seemed expectedly luke warm on the idea but said, "I'd like to find a logo that's green and white," and, "We'll see what kind of partners would be appropriate for a jersey like the Celtics."

I have some faith in the Celtics front office to make this inevitability as palatable as possible. Due to the recent comments, it seems like Sprite might be the ideal choice.

Can individual teams choose to not put advertising on their jerseys, or is this a league mandate?  I'd hope the Celtics considered themselves above this.  Money is hard to pass up, though.

If this indeed is inevitable I hope it's not to obtrusive to the overall uniform design.  I'll be disappointed if the NBA adopts the European soccer model of highly prominent logos dominating the uniform design.  A small bar on the lower back is about the extent of what I'd be okay with.

I believe it'll be league wide because the money will be split with the players and other teams. For now it seems like the ads/sponsors will be patches like the Kia ones on this year's All Star uniforms so hopefully it doesn't evolve into soccer kits.

I believe it's a badge, roughly 3 by 3 inches, on the front of the jersey.

Guinness is what came to mind for me but I imagine there could be issues with alcohol advertising being so closely tied to the team brand.

Agreed, that's more fitting.
