I kinda like him because he's a good guy but he's very often making me nervous watching him play. He's a seven foot center who can't rebound and play defense. Backup center at best, 5-10 min per game max and a 5 mil per year max because the question is if I'm Ainge, how can I give more money to Zeller then what's our two best players making? That's not fair, no matter new salary cup...

Zeller is an end of the bench back up center.  He can't rebound or play defense but he can score and run the floor.  His pay should be on par to a 12th man.  I like him on this team but I am not sure he makes a championship team roster.

Depends on what the Celts do with their other big man spots.

Zeller has value as a 2nd or 3rd string center.  For $5-10 million a year, the Celts could do much worse in filling one of their frontcourt rotation spots.

But they could also do much better, so no need to agonize over keeping him.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

This is correct: they could do worse and he probably is worth 5-10 million dollars a year in the new salary structure.

But I hate the idea of putting the cart before the horse, so I'd very much rather see him go and maintain as much financial flexibility as possible until we actually find a starting center.

My thinking is that in a league that is seeing more and more small ball, the importance of a backup center (let alone a third string center) is diminishing.

I'd let him go. He has a good game once every couple of months but for what we are doing, he is not worth the money it will cost to keep him.

I say kick him on the way out.

that is  prima facie funny thing to say, but he has some very good stretches this year. He doesn't deserve that. I'm not presuming that anyone at the Celtics organisation reads this website, but I wouldn't want a comment like that getting back to Tyler, especially before the playoffs.

He has some good games once in awhile but I feel like he plays kind of soft so I expect that he will not be coming back.  We can use that money elsewhere.

He should be the last piece of business done in the summer. If some team offers him a deal before then, oh well.

You are spot on Hank Finkel about his defense!!!  He is ranked 65th out of 77 centers!!!
