Let's see.
Bulls
- Stuck with Rose's contract; star level pay for average production
- Jimmy Butler locked up long term ... top 15 wing scorer
- Mirotic is a nice young stretch big / scorer off the bench
- McDermott is a nice shooter at the 3/4 but weak defensively
- Snell is a semi-decent 3-and-D wing
- Taj Gibson has one more year, he's a decent energy big
- Portis is a nice young energy big similar to Gibson
They've got a pick from Sacramento due at some point, don't they? I'm not sure what other pick assets they have besides their own.
76ers
- Okafor is a very nice big man prospect whose value is hindered a bit by weak defense / no range
- Noel is a nice young defensive big with some upside but lacks finishing ability
- Embiid is a lottery ticket, basically
- Covington is a decent enough 3-and-D wing on a nice contract
- Saric is a young Euro 3/4 who's a mystery but similar pedigree to Mirotic, maybe a bit better
Then you have the picks ... most notably their own pick this year (top 4) and the Lakers pick, which might be top 5 this year and if not will probably convey next year.
I'd say the Sixers pile of assets is better, but the Bulls are obviously fewer steps away from putting together an actual team, and they already have a top 20 player on the roster.
If the Sixers end up with a top 2 pick plus another top 5 pick from the Lakers in this draft, it could become a pretty clear cut thing, though. Especially if they turn Noel or Okafor into a package of young players that helps fill out their roster a bit.
I think the Bulls are going to be fine. Make some smart moves to reload with some younger role players around Rose, Butler, and Mirotic, and they could be back in the playoffs next year with a much younger, less creaky team.
Not sure how they're going to get significantly better than they are now, though. So maybe they'll trade Butler for a package of picks and players.
