I think Danny is on of the best GM's in all of basketball, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone that argues the opposite. Though I think he's really good it's nearly impossible to have a perfect record as GM. So from a GM stand point what's the last move Danny has made?

Let's stick to trades and contracts. Drafting is subjective and there are too many variables to that.

Is it possible we have to go all the way back to the Perk Jeff green trade? If so that's a pretty good run.

What do you guys think?

I think the Perk trade was a win for the Celtics. I'll say letting go of Tony Allen was the last consequential mistake Ainge has made.

Trading Perkins for Green was absolutely the right move at the time.  Perk was a free-agent to be, a year off of reconstructive knee surgery.  Lebron going to the Heat forced Danny to get a wing who could help defend him, in the last years of the KG/Pierce era.  Perk was never a good player to begin with and his play was rapidly declining, and has been ever since.  OKC overpaid him and eventually cut him.  In hindsight Green never was quite good enough but at the time he looked like the right fit.

I would say Danny's worse move was letting Tony Allen walk away for peanuts.  I think Danny feared that he was going to be a declining player with a reconstructed knee but TA has made him eat that choice.

The other could be his callous treatment of Ray Allen at the end of his tenure, especially signing Jason Terry.  I'm sure Ray deserved his fair share for ****ing about losing his starting job to Avery Bradley but the signing of Terry was really poor form, especially coming off a season when they were one quarter away from the Finals.

Not signing a bought-out player or free agent for the playoff run this year.

Letting Tony Allen walk.   Also drafting Fab Melo. That as horrible

I absolutely hated the Nets trade when it happened. At the time, the Nets seemed to have an infinite amount of money and decent enough talent to make these picks mid 1st rounders. I did not feel like the value was there, I thought KG and Pierce should stay in green even through a rebuild. Funny thing is, Ainge proved that he could get the job done without bottoming out. Smart is nice, but having that lottery pick is not what got us in the position we are in today.

That said, we are not contenders now and those three picks could make the difference.

Courtney Lee trade to Memphis

I had to look this up cause I couldn't remember what we got for him. This doesn't seem like a big loss. He has not really made an impact in the two seasons since he was traded. Why do you view this as such a loss?

Agree...Jason Terry was lost in space in Boston. I waited to see any sign of his vaunted shooting touch, and it never showed, along with terrible defense.

At the time I agreed with the trading of Perk, for Green. We had Shack, and Jermaine O'Neil, I though we could get one year out of both, and get another ring. Green was...well he was Green, and Shack was running on fumes. I will say this, when Shack was healthy for a short time in that season, and he was teamed with Paul, KG, Ray, and Rondo, it was scary how good they were for 30 games or so.

Bingo. Especially with Bobby Portis on the board

Jason Terry was a bad signing too. And Jermaine O'Neal. But the Courtney Lee trade to Memphis bugged me. We got nothing for him and included picks to dump him for Bayless's expiring contract. Everyone else we traded we got something in return.

Can we really say that Jermaine O'neal was a bad signing? He had some sort of issues here and played soft, but went on to be a productive defensive bigs after he left Boston. I think it is hard to blame Danny if a player decides to sign with you (and it wasn't big money either) but then does not try.

Ainge did not let Tony Allen walk. He offered Allen more money than the Grizzlies did. TA wanted a bigger role and didn't want to play behind Pierce and Ray. That's not Danny's fault.

I'd say the last bad move Danny made was signing Jermaine O'Neal. I'd say most, if not, all of Danny's bad moves were explainable when they were made. They just turned out a lot worse than expected.
