The one optimistic comp for Maker that I haven't heard yet is Porzingis. It's a pretty nice comp, just Maker is a little worse at everything across the board.
-Both are super tall, but Porzi is a bit longer + stronger
-Both have good, but not great, athleticism
-Both are mobile but slightly awkward, not super fluid looking or coordinated
-Both are stretch 4/5's, but Porzi's shot is significantly more reliable
-Both are intense competitors
-Both have a limited post game, no countermoves, not enough strength to consistently get position against NBA PF's
-Both had limited info on them coming into the draft. Porzi from Europe, Maker from HS in Canada.
-Both have questions about their BBIQ/feel. Porzi looked like he had average feel, Maker looks like he has decisively below-average feel.
Overall, I'd say that Porzingis's surprisingly good rookie season gives a glimmer of hope for Maker. Maker is clearly a worse prospect, so the question is not lotto vs nonlotto but 1st round vs 2nd round vs undrafted. I'd say he still should go in the late 1st.
