That Crowder injury really screwed things up in terms of positioning for the 3rd seed. It's looking like the best the C's can get is the 4th seed unless they can go another winning streak soon. With all these upcoming teams fighting for positioning I'm not sure how likely that is. So let's say the C's end up 4th and face Miami in the first round. Not a matchup I'd personally like to see but anyways. So they lose in 6 or 7 and fail to get out of the first round was this season a disappointment? I'd say yes simply because the team didn't grow as much as I thought they would. I don't think I feel alone in this thinking tho.

Probably. I really hope for a series win. I think it'll look good when free agents are considering teams

Yeah that's the biggest reason I feel that way. Really hoping the C's can get Charlotte.

At this point and in this scenario, definitely. We've swept them twice during the season, matchup very well with them, and we'd also have home court advantage with everyone presumably healthy. It'd be a pretty big disappointment to lose in that scenario.

On the other hand, if we catch a bad matchup without home court advantage (Atlanta) or we have an injury or two that we're dealing with, that might change things quite a bit. However, we were firmly in the third seed until Crowder's injury, so I'd be disappointed if we crapped out in the playoffs given your scenario.

Kinda, yeah.

As good as the Celts have looked at times this season, to finish in a similar way to last season would be a bummer. Especially since the younger guys, including smart and olynyk, have either spent the season stuck to the bench or haven't shown major improvement from last year.

Getting a really nice prospect from that Nets pick would be a good consolation, at least. Here's hoping.

But hey, who knows? Brad might works some of his coaching magic in the playoffs this time.

there are worse things that a loss in 6 in the first round. we had a p good season, crowder established himself as one of the best two way forwards in the league, and IT became an all star. olynyk and bradley made improvements too. player development was overall good. and since we are still a rebuilding team, immediate success is not the highest priority.

if something disappointed me this season it was the development of hunter and ~~smart~~ young; given all the incoming picks, their future looks uncertain. and im also a bit disappointed with sully: started the season well, but has not been particularly good the last month or so.

This season is a stepping stone. I don't care what happens in the playoffs beyond how it impacts our momentum heading into the Summer. I'd prefer we made it to the second round, because then it gives the appearance of a young team on the rise, but I don't think it really matters. Either way, we're positioned very well for an offseason that might be spectacular.

You have to admit that if there is a glimmer of hope that KD comes to the Franchise, a tough second round exit will improve that glimmer by a tiny bit...

There are many fans who have their eyes on the off season and wanting to see the squad DA can put together for next season. While the rebuild has been long and I am keen to see who comes to Boston, I will be very disappointed for this seasons team if they have a first round exit, even in 6 or 7 games. They have achieved so much as a team and individually in many cases, it would be great to see them perform at the top level over a series. This team will be 'disbanded' to some extent over the off season - I would love to see them progress a long way in the playoffs in green, since some wont be in a Celtics uniform next season.

Obviously, I'm rooting for them in the playoffs and want to see them overachieve. I'm just saying that in the grand scheme of things, I don't really care what happens in the playoffs (as long as they stay healthy and aren't embarrassed). When the team traded away KG and Pierce, I strapped in for the ol 3-5 year rebuild. We're ahead of schedule. We're coming up on 3 years this Summer.

As we've seen our players take large strides in their development

Crowder is officially a steal and borderline all star player
Thomas became an allstar
Plus the overall team has developed better evident by the increase in wins from 8th seed to almost 3rd
Plus we're now a more attractive free agent destination with tons of cap room for guys like horford and Durant

Agree with all of this. This season was better than I expected regardless of what happens. The main benefit of a series win in the playoffs would be how it affects the minds of free agents.

With the players we have, I think we have over achieved in many ways. This is about what I expected. We are fun to watch, we play hard, I look forward to every game. But we still have some work to do as a team to improve and some holes to fill.

I think Crowder has grown, which is progress. I would have liked to seen more growth from Smart. I hope we can upgrade our bigs some. I like our guards for the most part.
