This paragraph sums it up nicely:

"We've been over the Rajon Rondo part of the Rondo trade a hundred times. Obviously, Rondo himself was a complete disaster, and there's no need to dive back into just how bad he played for Dallas. But what the Mavericks gave up is still painful. If they miss the playoffs and don't even have a first round pick to show for it, that would be another nut punch from the Rondo deal after two or three have already been delivered."

Go Rondo and the Kings today vs. the Mavs!!!  This would be a HUGE LOSS for the Mavs and hopefully RR will be motivated to stick it to Carlisle once again:-)))

Nice post Smitty!

I figured the Mavs as a .500 team.  First out in the playoffs to the Warriors.

But I might have to cheer for the Mavs just so we get their pick.
I fear the Mavs dropping to the 12 spot.  What if they hit the jackpot with their 2.5 percent and end up in the top 3.  We lose the pick.
Might be better to drop back to 15!

Good.

At least they can't blame their CURRENT woes on Rajon anymore.

THIS season is on THEM.

Read the comments on the article - it is funny to see that one guy rationalizing the move in hindsight by saying that Crowder isn't really any good.

Getting philosophical here...  if a player is garbage for you, and if you could know he will always be garbage for you, is it fair value to trade him for garbage?  At least regarding your franchise, it's garbage for garbage, regardless of whether that guy will sprout into a beautiful flower with another team.

Of course, that's not how we evaluate trades.  The Celts traded a pending free agent who wasn't helping the team for a starting SF and a potential lottery pick (along with the 2016 and 2017 Twolves #2s we got for Wright).  That's a steal every time.

LOL

"Rajon Rondo said he wants the Mavs to get their "plane ticket" for the offseason the same day the Kings do."
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

We dont lose the pick, it just goes next year with the same protections.

With a top 3 pick one could argue they wouldn't be missing the playoffs the following season. Might be best to just acquire it this year. And if nets pick falls outside of the top 3 and we can't trade it for a star, to do our best to trade nets pick, Dallas pick, and our pick (maybe philly second as well) to move up a slot or two from wherever we landed in the lottery

Wow - I just love Rondo! Glad he is able to play his game for another team. He may never have the same success as he had here, but it was sad watching things play out last season.
