I've watched a ton of Perry Ellis over the last three years, and he's the definition of an excellent college player who won't make it at the next level. He's extremely limited athletically and undersized for the 4 spot. He's skilled, but he lives on going back-to-basket against smaller college forwards. He's a versatile shooter and can stretch the floor, but I don't see him having a ton of value other than spot up shooting. I'd be shocked to see him able to guard NBA three's. He should definitely get a chance to prove himself somewhere in summer league and training camp, but I expect him to play overseas.
ok. again . I'm asking because ppl have this idea of him from what they have seen in the past
have you seen a ton of games he has played this season? Did you see the round of 32 and sweet 16 games?
To channel my inner Donald Trump -- god help us -- I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone on this blog who watches more Big 12 basketball (remember our Myles Turner discussions last year?). I didn't watch the R32, but I watched last night and several regular season games. I've also seen him live four times, though not this year.
I'm actually very pro-Ellis and I enjoy watching him play. Outstanding college player and should be in NPOY discussion. That said, he's 23, a very limited athlete, can't play multiple positions and struggles defending bigger players. We already have a surplus of PF's and I think the Celtics should pass on a low-ceiling, low-floor player like Ellis in the second round.
I hope he gets his chance somewhere though. He will absolutely be a Summer League & training camp guy.
