Since they just matched up head to head in the tournament, I ask this question.

Poeltl is a little longer, a little better interior defender, although Sabonis might be a better defender in the P&R.

Sabonis is a better rebounder and he's tougher, and I also think he has the best chance of improving his range out to three.

Just finished watching the Game. Poeltl couldn't even keep up! He was sucking wind, and had to continually got to the bench!

His Endurance is a huge question mark. Sabonis turned his ankle and dominated Poeltl.
The announcer said, you heard of New York tough, well this kid is Lithuanian tough.
Gonzagas coach said he's the toughest player he's ever coached.

I Love the kid and would take him over Poeltl any day, and when you factor in draft position the choice is easy. Sabonis.

I'm 100% confident in his shooting ability, his form is almost perfect. Just needs to take more shots.

Too many decent big men to take Poeltl top 7. Zimmerman, Stone, Rabb, Davis, Zubac and more can be had later.

I think Sabonis is going to be the player who will go in the mid-late 1st but 2-3 years from now will be picked in the top 5 of retrospective redrafts. He's going to be a center, not sure why he's considered undersized at nearly 6'11", especially in today's game. All of his supposed weaknesses relate to misprojecting him as a PF. But as a center, he'll be a good post scorer, good shooter, good passer, good dribbler, good rebounder, and good overall defender. He'll be a databall darling on both offense and defense. He'll be able to contribute sooner than most prospects because he's already seasoned professionally and grew up with an NBA father. He'll hustle his ass off and never be a prima donna. I envision him becoming a perennial borderline All Star, not just a good backup. He's going to be better than Poeltl. I hope he's very high on Ainge's draft board.

Should point out this game was in Denver, which can make a lot of players have endurance issues.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I think Poeltl will be the better pro. his defensive impact will be much more fruitful.
Sabonis won't even be a starter in the NBA unless he develops a consistent three point shot.

I've watched a lot of both of these guys and IMO, Poeltl is clearly the better player and better pro prospect. Just my opinion.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

Poeltl lives in Utah, at 4000'.  Denver is 5000'.  That shouldn't be the problem

I like the value at both picks,

Poeltl had a bad game. One bad game has to be put im perspective granted it was on the biggest stage of his career but its still just one game. As fans we dont really know the full story leading into the game and the many variabes that could have affected him. Post players are especially reliant and the production of their guards and the fact that he only had 5 FGA tells me that along with earl foul trouble and constant double teams that the guards where struggling to get him his shots.  One game does not negatively change my view of Poeltl to the point where I would pass on him at #5. After Simmons, Ingram and Bender I view Poeltl as the next best prospect.

Sabonis was able to take advantage of this high profile matchup and thrive. This just brings more casual NCAA bball fans in on what has been a very productive season for Sabonis. Where I view Poeltl as a likely starting 5 given his physical and defensive profile I think Sabonis with thrive as a 3rd big utility big man type player. He has a solid chance to become more then that if he can add 3pt range.

In terms of value, Sabonis seems to be the logical choice. But what are the chances that he's still gonna be around at 22?

Mike, I think the point is if Ainge wants him, than he will be a Celtic. With picks around 14 and 22, 31 and 35 and 47. Plenty of ammo to move up or down.

Sabonis will be ours if we so choose.

More likely you'd pick Sabonis with the Dallas pick.  I don't think he lasts until 22.

Draft express has him going 18 now. He was 24 last week.

Even still, could use 22,31,35 to move up and snag him.
