Sam Cassell - Washington
Luke Walton - LA Lakers
Tom Thibodeau - Houston
Ettore Messina - Brooklyn/Sacramento
Kevin McHale - Minnesota
Avery Johnson - New Orleans
Patrick Ewing/Phil Jackson - New York
Darrell Armstrong/Adrian Griffin - Orlando Magic
I am not sure who is going to pick up Blatt, as I am sure he will given another opportunity to prove himself but it seems he needs a group of young players who will listen to him cough...lebron...cough
Sam Cassell to take over in Washington is an excellent one.
I don't think Morey really understands the value of coaches so I doubt he goes with someone like Thibodeau. I am betting that Morey gambles on a less experienced coach again. So I am going to go with Luke Walton to Houston. I think Houston can offer a much more talented team than LAL so I think Walton chooses them over LAL the same way Steve Kerr chose GSW over New York.
I think Phil Jackson will keep Kurt Rambis due to a lack of of viable alternatives. I think Phil wants someone committed to the Triangle so that reduces his options considerably. I have a hard time seeing Phil Jackson wanting to work with Patrick Ewing. Also, I think the owner is reluctant to hire Ewing also [Ewing would have too much power with media/fans].
I'd love to see OKC hire Thibodeau as their new coach. Thibs deserves a big job and OKC deserves a top shelf coach. If that doesn't happen, I think Sacramento and New Orleans fight it out over Thibs.
I'd love to see Kevin McHale go back to Minnesota. It'd be great to see him work with Towns and Wiggins for a year or two. Then they'll need a better coach and McHale will need to step aside to allow them continue to grow. [
edit: Thibs to Minny. McHale back to commentating]
I think the Lakers should keep Byron Scott. That have dealt him bad hand after bad hand. He deserves to stay. It'll be interesting to see what their front office do. They have very good to back Scott so far and not to scapegoat him. To accept blame for failures of the team. It'll be interesting to see if they continue to do that. A great sign of leadership if they do.
Scott Brooks will end up one of the half-assed teams like Sacramento, New Orleans or Minnesota. One of those teams that regularly screws up. That badly overestimates his value as a coach because of his W-L record. I am going to go with New Orleans.
Actually, I am going to go with David Blatt to Sacramento. Divac is a euro guy. Divac loves ball movement. Blatt strong reputation in Europe. Had reputation before Cleveland as someone who values ball movement. I think that is a good pairing.
Okay, need to find a new place for Thibodeau then. I say Minnesota. I bet Thibs is attracted to the idea of working with Towns and Wiggins over all the other dodgy to mediocre offers he'll be getting.
Dan Majerle as new Phoenix Suns coach. Long history with team. Promising assistant.
Brooklyn Nets to hire Ettore Messina. Owner worked with coach at CSKA. I think the owner wants a more European focus. Something he is more comfortable with. I think Messina fits that. Although, the owner may let new GM make decision instead. I think new GM and Messina at San Antonio so that may still work.
